Actually, no one can tell you when this hotel will open and be 100% sure it's the truth. The resort IS supposed to open in December but on time openings don't always happen in Mexico. There was another resort that was supposed to open in December (Valentin La Hacienda) and they have pushed their opening WELL into 2007 (spring or summer). Iberostar is pretty good about having things done on time, but some things that could force a delay can also be out of their control. Right now they say they are on schedule, but who's to say that's completely correct or will remain to be the case? It probably will open, but no one can say for sure until it actually does.

I would just stay in touch with your TA (if you have one) and make sure he or she is keeping up with the current situation.

As far as any brand new resort "running smoothly", one usually will not see that happen for the first month or two. Again, that's typical, doesn't mean it'll be the case here.

*edit*
I also edited the title of the thread so people would know what you were asking. "has anyone seen it yet" could mean 1,000 different things and I almost deleted this before I read it thinking it was spam.

We have just returned from our wedding at the Iberostar Maya. The Grand is being built next door to the Maya and looks impressive though it is far from finished. We asked the Manager at the Maya when the Grand would be open (we were lured by the thought of it being adult only!) and were told that they are 2 months behind schedule, which is not being helped by the amount of rain they are receiving at the moment. He estimated opening would be end of Feb to mid March.

The Iberostar website also mentions February opening for the Grand Paraiso. We met a couple from Canada who told us they had seen the Grand in a brochure at home that was offering bookings from December and hoped to stay there for Christmas. Upon seeing the building site they realised this was not going to happen!

Any new updates on when this will open? The Iberostar website doesn't say too much about it. Thanks,
Sue

I found this on another site:
Miami, Florida - January 2007 - Those searching for the ultimate in adults-only luxury accommodations need look no further than the new Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso. This will be the fifth and final addition to Iberostar Playa Paraiso complex of resorts on the Riviera Maya in Mexico and will raise the bar as the first of a new five-star Iberostar "Grand Hotel" series - a brand extension that will elevate their exceptional all-inclusive model to a new uncompromising luxury level. The Grand Opening is scheduled for February 9, 2007.

The Grand Hotel Paraiso will feature 300 suites, many with outstanding ocean views and twelve spectacular Honeymoon "Villa Suites" each with private butler service, their own personal plunge pools and lush garden views. There will be concierge service available during the day in each building of the Grand Hotel Paraiso to assist guests with booking activities and dinner reservations as well as attending to guests' every wish and whim.

Regarding dining, guests have the option of choosing from four a la carte restaurants including the Teriyaki/Tepanyaki Grill, an International Gourmet restaurant, a Steak and Seafood fine dining restaurant and an Italian Trattoria. Other more casual options will include an international buffet restaurant and a poolside snack bar.

The hotel will boast Greco-Roman-style architecture, three swimming pools, including one heated indoor/outdoor pool with a retractable roof, a saltwater pool and a lake-style pool. Guests will be able to enjoy a swim-up pool bar and several beach bars, as well as the services of beach and pool butlers.

The Grand Hotel Paraiso will also have its own private mini-spa offering couples' treatments and massages for hotel guests. For those seeking an extended menu of spa services, guests at the Grand Hotel Paraiso will have access to El Spa, a world-class European-style spa located in a palatial setting just across the street in the Playa Paraiso shopping and entertainment plaza.

In addition to limitless dining and relaxation choices at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso, guests of the new hotel will also have complete access to all the restaurants and activities at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach, Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar, Iberostar Paraiso Lindo and Iberostar Paraiso Maya hotels. Undoubtedly, everyone will find something to suit their personal vacation style. Active visitors can participate in the water sports activities offered along the beach and in the pools. Golfers will enjoy playing the championship, 18-hole, par 72, Playa Paraiso Golf Course, designed by P.B. Dye. Those who seek late night entertainment will find multiple choices. In addition to the Grand Hotel Paraiso's exclusive nightclub and sophisticated bars and lounges, guests can walk to The Galaxy Disco in the shopping and entertainment plaza, which is open until the wee hours of the morning for all guests staying at any of the five Playa Paraiso resorts.

Guests at all Iberostar Hotels & Resorts enjoy first-class accommodations and the convenience of an all-inclusive vacation. Daily rates include accommodations, all meals and snacks, drinks and cocktails, room service, fitness center, kid's camp, activities, nightly entertainment, gratuities and much more. For more information or for reservations contact your travel professional.

Well, Apple better send a memo out to us agents AND take it out of inventory because I could book it for you with a March 1st arrival right now! Same deal with Funjet - it can be booked for a March 1st arrival.

I'm not saying either of them are correct, don't know when the hotel will open (so much for Feb. 9th huh?) - just stating that I am able to book it before 4/1 (which I wouldn't anyway).

Yes, this is part of the Playa Paraiso complex which includes the Maya. It's supposedly above and beyond even the maya. I haven't seen it; only read about it, but I recall seeing somewhere that it was almost twice the cost of the Maya!
