How busy is December 1st week?

We will be staying at the Lindo for the week of December 3rd to 9th. Can anyone tell me what to expect regarding how busy it will be at that time of year?
I would like to know how hard it will be to book reservations, tours, that sort of thing. Also I was hoping to upgrade our room . . . do tears help ? I will cry if required

My birthday falls in ear December and we've done AI trips down there then.
We've always had extremely good luck with availability and pricing because for us in the US anyway, it isn't - or hasn't been - a big time for travel. We were told that it IS a big time for European travelers to begin their vacations at that time (they usually tend to stay a couple of weeks)...

But the European influence at that time has always been JUST fine with me.....

being very low season, does this mean we will have difficulty with closed shops or attractions/tours?

Can't imagine that would be the case. I've been there the first week of December and no shops in Playa were closed due to less people in the area that I could see. There are still people traveling, but October through mid December is low season in a big way.

At the Lindo, if it's very low occupancy, they may close an ala carte or two for some spiffing up, but that happens at all resorts when it's slow. This is the only time they have to get painting, cleaning, repairs done. Not saying this WILL happen, just saying it could.

Like Shammy said, in a place like PDC, you won't have to worry about that at all!
We went to a much smaller, not as touristy area in August on the Pacific coast- and while some restaurants were closed, there was still many open. And Playa is so popular, I doubt hardly anything closes!
I think you will find it a very nice time to travel in the area, a little quieter is nice. We have been in January and in February and in March, and noticed that Jan seemed to be a lot quieter, and early December should be even quieter yet.

First week of Dec in '03 and '04 the Riu Palace Mexico was 100% full. Last year was only around 50/60% due to Wilma. We can no longer get bookings from our Canadian tour operator (they have exclusive rights to Rius) for the two weeks starting immediately following American Thanksgiving. We booked for that time slot in May.

Touristic places here in Mexico start to get full of people after December 15. That is when everyone gets their "aguinaldos" and/or Christmas bonus.

This is sounding better as the thread grows. Don't get me wrong I like people sort'a most of the time but not having to compete for everything is just foine with me.
If it's going to be quiet I would suggest you all cancel your current plans and book for the first week of Dec so we can meet !

We travel at the beginning of December every year, mostly for the very reason that it is nice and quiet. We love to travel with as few crowds to contend with as possible. Uncrowded beaches, less expensive lodging.........I couldn't imagine going in high season, actually. Our wedding anniversary is on December 11th so our vacation usually includes that date. (I think we planned it that way so that we could go off and celebrate every year during low season!)
This year we are a little later than usual, though- going from December 7th to the 17th. Never had a problem with anything being closed.

We also prefer the last week of Nov or first week of Dec for all the forementioned reasons....fewer people. I too like it less crowded. Looks like you will be around the same time caramba and me and some others are...stay in touch and we'll have a little peep meet while there...tip a few cold ones with some fellow peeps

December 9th for Shammy's birthday bash is a given . We actually just changed our plans for the start of our trip and will spend our first two nights checking out Isla Mujeres for the first time. Our first night in Playa will be on the 9th. Looking forward to meeting you!

What is the day and night temp in early December? We will be at Fishermans Dec4-11 and was wondering if we need to pack long sleeves or pants for evenings.

This would depend on the climate your coming from. 65 to 70 deg F at night is great to us.
