Nicest Non-AI Hotels on or just off 5th

We are considering going non-AI for a change and would like to stay either on or very close to 5th and the beach. I know opinions will vary greatly, but which would be considered some of the nicest, comparable to 4 to 5 star, non-AI places to stay in that area. Pool isn't as important as the beach is. Comfy bed would be nice too!
Thanks!

Las Palapas or Shangri La for me. Not 5* hotels, but the beach is!

Playa Maya Hotel and Fusion Hotel are popular choices for beach hotels. As far as 'off beach' but close to, Hotel Riviera del Sol is another one that is well liked.
However, my choice for price, quality and location is Luna Blue. It is very popular, so dont hesitate to book, thru Playa Info to get your free Playa Deal Card.

I'd go with the Eclipse. The apartments on the second and third floor are great and the beds are the best we've slept on in Playa. The owner Peter is a hoot and listening to his manager Matias playing guitar is a gratis bonus.

the royal palms condos are gorgeous! they are on the north end of town which is closest to the best beach. they are listed under the trip planning directory and also at www.royalpalmscondos.com the eclipse is a nice "budget" hotel, but i wouldn't consider it 4 or 5 star.

Hotels

How much are you looking to spend? We spend about $70 night at the Jungla Caribe and were happy
