I am going to be in Playa del Carmen for three weeks in May as part of a study abroad type program. I believe that the trip is going to be from May 8 through 28th. I'm interested in some of the more touristy type stuff that people do on their vacations, but I'm more interested in visiting some of the less touristy spots. I'm definitly interested in finding out what the favorite restaurants and bars/clubs for the locals are, especially places that feature salsa dancing. If there's anyone from the area who'd be interested in telling me about the area and the types of things there are to do during that time that would be great. I will be coming with 9 other students some of which like me are studying spanish (I'm minoring in spanish) and some are studying history. I would really like to get a feel for what the area has to offer and possibly meet someone who lives there that would be willing to show me and a few others what life is like there.
