Need to decide..Playacar Palace or Royal Porto .??

We have to book our Xmas trip by Tuesday & I cannot decide between Playacar Palace & Royal Porto... I know, poor me.
They both look & sound wonderful.
Any suggestions??
The last time I was there, there was NO Cancun or Mayan
Riveria ~ virgin sands & boat trip from hell between Cozumel & main land.
thanks

Both quite nice and have had some glowing reviews by forum members (known as Peeps)....but for me - I'd pick the Royal Porto Real for it's location and beach....

With a search you can find much recent discussion on both properties, and pictures of both (The Playacar Palace was just featured in a recent trip report)....

We stayed at the RPR last year and really liked it. We wanted to try something new and looked into Playacar Palace for this year, but it was much more money than RPR so we are going back to RPR. We want to visit again in March and again will look into Playacar Palace but possibly may be leaning towards a non-AI condo this time. We were in town every day and night. Its very convenient when at RPR to just walk onto 5th. I would love to enjoy all the restaurants and bars and not feel as though we should go back to the resort because we already paid for it. The only thing that worries me is the ice in the drinks out on 5th. I know the resort says they bring in bagged purified ice, but I'm not sure about the bars/restaurants on 5th. Can anyone tell me about that?

Some things to consider/know about both resorts:
RPR will be going adults only the 1st of November.
RPR's name is changing to The Royal Playa de Carmen.
PP is not adults only.
PP has half as many rooms as RPR

We're having the same issues-both look like nice places. Can anyone tell me if the RPR has pool/beachside dining? We don't want to have to leave the pool area and change clothes everytime we want to have lunch.

Yes.

"Pelicanos" is a pool/beach side restaurant. No need to change out of pool/beach clothing for breakfast or lunch.

Why is the RPR changing names-they aren't changing ownership are they? I would be hesitant to book at a place if that was the case.

No, same ownership (Real Resorts) - new name to go along with the new adults only policy.

You can't get much closer than the RPR. It is literally a minute walk to the corner of 5th.

Not sure how close Playacar Palace is...sorry...

The Playacar Palace is right at the beginning of 5th. You just walk around the corner of the hotel and there it is.

For all intents and purposes (give or take just a few steps) both resorts are equal distance to 5th Ave. What is different is where the resorts are located. The RPR is at the far north end of 5th Ave. and PP is at the far south end of 5th Ave.
