There is parasailing at the resort. Don't know prices, though...
As for snorkeling: right offshore it's a desert... You will see an occasional fish go by, but there's no reef in front of Tucan/Quetzal. But if you're willing to walk south for a mile or two you'll find a few rocky area's where there's some nice snorkeling. If you wanna see tons of fishes: I suggets you book a tour. You can do that with Tucan's resident dive shop for example. Or better yet: book a Playa.Info tour: since there's always some quality snorkeling involved! |

If there is not one there, you can take a walk north to the Viva Azteca and the Riu. There are two companies there that offer it. We used the company on the beach, not the company that rents from the Azteca. ICBW but I don't think that the Azteca would have a problem with you walking up to their hut to rent a parasail ride if the other comapny is not there.
BE CAREFUL WALKING AROUND THE POINT AT THE ALLEGRO! There are sharp rocks there and the beach has eroded quite a bit. A guy cut his foot badly while walking there during high winds. Do a search on snorkeling and there is a lot to choose from. We went to Xel Ha and enjoyed it but next time I would rather have a more natural setting. Anyway, just in case, you now have another option for parasailing. |

BTW, the Tucan looked great and that may be our choice next time.
We got kicked out while we were checking it out and asking a few people questions. Most all of the resorts will not allow you to access their properties if you are not staying there. They sure didn't mind us looking at the jewelry carts though...

Hi TandT...yes there is parasailing right in front of the Tucan. You pay the guy on the beach something like $40-50 per person, and they put a lifejacket on you and run you out to a boat offshore. They harness you into the parasail gear, you sit on the back of the boat, they start moving, and up you go. It's wonderful, and I would highliy recommend it. You will never see a prettier view of the gorgeous water of Playcar.
Regarding snorkeling, there is a scuba shack on the Quetzal side, but I'm not sure whether they run snorkeling out of there too. As someone here mentioned earlier, check out the playa.info tours. I've seens some great snorkeling pictures from those tours, and they look like a blast. Hope you have a great time. |

Hey, we'll be there around the same time, may try the parasailing.
While we're on the subject of activities, any info from anyone on the sailing at this hotel. Our brouchure mentioned dinghy sailing, but havent seen any refence to it on the forums. Failing that what about windsurfing? Anway the snorkelling info is useful, will pack the gear and book some trips through the forum before we go... |
