Freeport has really grown in the past few years....more so in Port Lucaya. The big new resorts are out there. Fun jazz clubs, Count Basie square is fun in the evenings. I think the big casino has been remodeled lately...can't remember the name as it has been bought and sold a few times. Big shopping plaza with big designer names. We did the Dolphin Experience with the girls...you don't swim with them but you can get in one at a time with a trainer and "pet" the dolphin...they really stressed education, conservation, etc. Snorkeling here was really poor. We thought the straw market was interesting. Not sure how the area has recovered from the hurricanes as there was a lot of damage on Grand Bahama where we own a timeshare. If you have time to explore the more remote beaches are beautiful and you can find lots of private beaches.

Current Info??
Scott and I are planning a trip for our 10th Anniversary, and although we LOVE the Yucatan, we want to try somewhere different.
Based on our travel critera, less then $2800 all inclusive, less then a 4 hour flight from Baltimore, white sand beaches, day trips/excursions, local shopping, and turquoise waters, The Bahamas sounds like a good choice. Has anyone been to the Bahamas lately? If so, where did you stay? Would you go again? Are there things to do/can you island hop/siteseeing excursions/nightlife? Thanks! Angie |

Anyway, in my opinion, going to the Bahamas is like going to Miami except more boring. The islands are flat. No rivers, no mountains, no ruins, no jungle treks etc. And buying a "Bahama Mama" drink at the bar will set you back between $7 and $10US. Have you thought about going to a different region of Mexico like Huatulco for example? |

Just using the "Search Function"
![]() Scott isn't interested in the west coast of Mexico- and we really want to stay somewhere closer to home, as our 4 year old will be staying at mom-mom and pop-pop's house. We both love the Yucatan, we've been to Cancun 4 times, Isla Mujeres twice, and Playacar once. However, since we haven't been anywhere else- we don't know if we are missing something by only going to Mexico. And you know..the photos of the beaches of Bahamas looks soooo tempting. (Even though the most beautiful places seem to be the smaller islands) |

I second the thought that everything is more expensive, but the beaches, IMO, blow those in Mexico away (nothing against Mexico either ![]() ).

I heard that before. BTW, I don't see why we can't find alternative places for vacation without anyone thinking badly of us. I was just discussing our next vacation (which we hope will be Europe), but if we can't swing that, the thought of yet another trip to PDC leaves me kind of feeling "same old thing." I need a break so next time we go back, we'll be excited, know what I mean? Looking at this thread makes me think that we should try the Caribbean.

I don't think anyone thinks badly of people for vacationing and exploring other areas. There are people who have gone to many other destinations and have written trip reports sharing their experiences. Obviously, since this is a Playa forum, that would be the focus of most people's trips. But it has never been a problem discussing other places for travel here.

Ah well. Ban me please before I say anothing shitty thing today
