hi all. if I was looking for a place with feel of riu palace mexico, but food

more in line with aventura spa palace or better, what would you recommend?
Wife and I have been to the riu palace 7 times now, and aventura just last year to try something new. we realize that the only thing we do not like about the riu palace is the food.
Generally at the aventura we liked the food, but really disliked the size of the resort, and the way too casual dress during dinner.
first post! but long time "lurker"

stay in town and try some local flare. there are several very nice places to eat. some food that alone will make you want to return to pdc

Less casual?
In town may not be your best bet.
It's very casual.

That's part of the charm.

i am surprised at loo not giving the normal spill of search feature.
check out threads and trip planning on this site. you will find food and hotels of all categories. depending on amount you want to spend, if it is available pdc offers it.

oh I've searched, and been watchin the site for some time.
I really like the comments though when posing a direct question . but if it is really casual, we might not like it as much.
my wife and I kind of like a dressier dinner option now and then.
we do go in to PDC at least twice during each stay for a casual dinner and usually to watch some NCAA basketball at a local bar. just another PDC tradition of ours

its not soo much being casual,...but when a restaurant calls for slacks and collar shirt, but some show up in shorts and tank top...it ruins the ambiance when you are all dressed up enjoying a romantic dinner while looking at some dudes hairy back!
now If we go in to PDC...we are casual drinking having fun, its what we expect to see, and participate in willingly

Have you ever stayed at the Iberostar properties? The newer one (Maya, I think) has several specialty restaurants to choose from so you could have a fromal dinner every night. I thought the food was comparable to the RIUs though, so you might not like it. IMO, AI food is not as good as eating in restaurants. There are many upscale restaurants in Playa to choose from where you could dress more formally.

As for hotels, are you looking for 5*? Did you check if you can stay at Royal Porto Real without doing the All inclusive? I think that's an upscale hotel, and best of all, it's right downtown!

You can't stay at the Royal Porto Real without doing the all inclusive plan, it's an AI resort only. But you should still consider this hotel as the food is very good and the ala carte dinner restaurants do require you to dress up. It's also close to Playa, IN Playa actually and that seems to be something you want.

My next suggestion would be for the Playacar Palace. Same chain of resorts as the Aventura Spa so I would have to think that the food quality is the same. It's small, attracts mainly adults, and has that evening dress up feature you say is important to you. You're just steps from Playa on the south end so if you ask me, this is the answer for you.

However, I personally found nothing wrong with the food at the Riu Palace, and didn't think it was any worse than the food at Aventura Spa. But that's the problem right there - people have different tastes and different likes and dislikes so asking for a resort recommendation based on food quality is not going to get you an sure fire answer.

Anyway, I'd look very closely into the Playacar Palace as I think it will be your best bet.

The Royal Hideaway had the best food we ever ate for an all-inclusive. Price is a factor on this resort, it is expensive but well worth it.

Definitely great food at RH. I would go to some of these restaurants even if they weren't AI (I can't of course, but I would).
