How did you meet your signicant other?

It was a Friday night. At the bar with my best buddy. Standing next to the shooter bar where we could see the action on the dance floor. Guy and girl walk up to the shooter bar. Guy orders Gran Marnier. Girl orders tequila. They pound them back then turn to leave. She looks at me and asks, "which is better, tequila or gran marnier?" I respond, "tequila!" She smile and says, "you're right!", kisses me on the lips and leaves. Never seen her before in my life. Two years later I married her.

I was a 23 year old cold storage worker and part time skydiving instructor living in a small town (2,000) and she a 18 year old student. We met in Feb., I asked her if she could put up with me forever in May and she said yes, we were married a year later. That was 32 years ago. This is what happens when you marry your best friend in life. I am truely blessed!!

5 yr high school reunion. Didnt' know the guy, but I hung out with people who did know him. He went solo, I went w/a date, in fact, my best friend who went with me & date was my date's cousin, but knew my (now) husband from Jr. High school. We all sat at the same table. I told her to introduce me to him, being a bad cousin, she did...she went even further and gave him my phone number....bad girls, bad girls...too bad I was too busy ditching school, he would have been a fun high school boyfriend. Everything turned out great! Still together 23 yrs later.

Karen 5 years younger than me (looks 15 years younger) is a friend of my sisters, Donna and Patti. I knew of her and had seen her when I was visiting home from college. Didn't think much about her. 5-6 years later after law school, I was volunteering at a jazz festival and saw this great looking woman with other friends of my sisters. We spoke for a while and I was smitten. For the next two years when I was "free" I'd call and ask her out. Karen always had a boyfriend. When she was free, I was taken. Finally we were both on the market and I asked her out. NO WAY...she had heard about me from Donna and Patti, knew I was "okay" but definitely not her style (she is more laid back, quiet, shy, etc...I am , well, not). Finally, after a few more months of phone calls she agreed to see me, but it had to be Wednesday night and I had USVBA (volleyball) practice. Our first date was me stopping by her condo to shower after practice and watch a tv movie. Somehow she ended up agreeing to marry me (social service project?) and we are celebrating our 10th in Playa in 13 days.

Wired, this is a great story, (sounds like destiny!) but given that your s/o was saying you're crazy on that Korea thread, I think I want her side of this too!

( I think my husband asked me out because I wouldn't go out w/ other guys in his band-who were the worst pair of "belt notchers" in NJ at the time-but I'm not sure he would say that

Okay, last time this was asked, I didn't have one either, but this time I do. I hesitate to post it, since most of you already know the story, but I will anyway. Here ya go:

I knew this guy online from the Playa.Info site and grew to like him through his posts, though we had never had any personal interaction. In December of ’05, we posted casually to each other before he came down to Playa with his girlfriend of five years. I met them in person and liked them both though I (along with nearly everyone else who met them) could not imagine a more unlikely couple than the two of them, as she was stiff and proper and stodgy and he is totally irreverent and fun. And though I liked her and would never even have considered interfering... despite all that, he and I seemed to have a connection from the moment our eyes met in the van on the way to the catamaran. Spent a couple more times around the two of them during their trip and he made me smile, while she rolled her eyes. I had no way of knowing they were on one of those make-or-break-the-relationship vacations.

After they returned home, I PM’d him telling him how nice it was to have met the two of them and, jokingly (and out of character), to tell the g/f that she might have a challenge from me if he ever quit a certain nasty habit I believed him to have. (Turns out it wasn’t a habit after all, but an occasional thing.)

I was pretty embarrassed for saying that when he announced a couple weeks later that they had broken up. He was a bit sad about the split so I, along with other Playa.Info friends, sent him nice PMs to make him feel better. I asked if a phone call would help. He said it would. My internet phone connection sucks so our first conversations were comical, not understanding one another, missing whole sentences, and ultimately being cut off and calling one another back time and again. Finally, we realized Instant Messaging would work better and our communication took off and became a nightly thing. He felt better. So did I!

Next thing I know, a few of us have convinced him and he’s on his way down to Playa for a big week-long party with 200+ of our closest internet friends we never met (PeepFest!), and we’ve got a Sunday date scheduled. He gets into town on Thursday and our date started early and never ended. A few weeks later, I flew to Philly for his birthday and soon after that, he announced his feelings (I shared them) to the world (via Playa.info). If his dang house ever sells, he’ll quit the job and share happily ever after with me here.

It’s all good!
