(POLITICAL) Illegal Immigration questions
Link to Dallas Morning News:
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...s.d9b9669.html My questions are multiple. I'm not trying to be partisan, I'm willing to listen to any suggestions. What should be done to curb the flow of illegal immigrants into this country? How much of our tax money should we as a society pay for these people once we know they are here? How much of a burden on the US is the illegal immigration issue? What do we do about the illegal immigrants that are currently in our country? Last edited by dartay : 10-24-2006 at 11:52 AM. |

Can't read the link...but I would start from here...
Serve America's Economy by Matching a Willing Worker with a Willing Employer: When no American worker is available and willing to take a job, the program should provide a labor supply for American employers. It should do so in a way that is clear, streamlined, and efficient so people can find jobs and employers can find workers in a timely manner. Promoting Compassion: The program should grant currently working undocumented aliens a temporary worker status to prevent exploitation. Participants would be issued a temporary worker card that will allow them to travel back and forth between their home and the U.S. without fear of being denied re-entry into America. Most people don't realize that they do contribute very heaily to our economy and work very hard and pay taxes. Politition know sending all the illigals home would in effect colaps our economy. These people are doing the crap jobs that none of us will due anymore partly because of our education and availability of higher paying jobs. I know here in the mid west we would be able to get the crops out of the field before they rot without them. Nor would we have any of our beef, pork and chicken prosessed. Have you ever had Homel products how do you think that gets canned and packaged? It ain't white folks up there. Now we'll ship it. Truckers make good money but $7.50 hour to work in the plant? Heck no. Polititians use this scare tacktic every election year to drum up support but once their they quietly drop the subject and then rally the troops next election. Just my 2 cents.

I understand your position on the low paying jobs, but that's where we have to be pro-active in getting people off of our give away welfare system. If you read the article, the bill is $100 million dollars per year from 1 hospital that the American taxpayers pick up. The scare tactics have worked on you in my opinion, "the collapse of our ecomony" ? I'm looking for solutions. |

So if there is no willing American to take a job then we should allow anyone to break the law? To come across our borders unheeded? And, we should just say "We understand that you broke our laws but that's OK?" Have you lived in a low income housing project with predominantly illegal immigrants? I have, Crosby Creek Apts in Farmers Branch,TX I worked and lived there while going to school. Every day vans come around to sell everything from groceries to clothes. None of this is taxed. 20 people living in a 2 bedroom apt. - No taxes from there. Should I pay more taxes to pick up a $100 million a year medical bill from predominantly illegal aliens? |

Interesting topic. We just drove down to PDC from Rockwall, Texas. We drove to McAllen, crossed the border on foot to get paperwork done and then drove across the next day. When we were walking back that first night across the bridge from Mexico to the USA I looked over the bridge into the water and saw about 7 people crossing the border in the water right there at the border! I was joking at first, told my wife "I wonder if anyone is swimming across the Rio Grande and I'll be darn if they actually weren't. It was after dusk, they were walking/swimming across holding their belongings above their head so it wouldn't get wet.

There is no punishment for breaking our laws, I believe that there has to be. I also believe that they must return to their home country BEFORE any kind of temporary status is given. Bus tickets to Brownsville from Dallas are $46, you can buy a lot of those with $100 million saved from 1 hospital alone. It also states "no amnesty" but doesn't put forth any time frames for the temporary workers. And I disagree that Bush (or most politicians for that matter) are aware of immigration conditions other than the sheet of paper that is put in front of them. |

. The compromising was to come later. Why do you think it is the result of a compromise? And you disagree that Bush would understand the impact of illegal immigration in Texas? C'mon man, he was governor there for how long? He lives there(when he can)! You are not saying the Bush is dumb are you? Or that you are smarter than he is????![]() Last edited by Jacko : 10-24-2006 at 12:32 PM. |

There, my great grandfather labored as a house painter for pennies a day. He scrimped and saved, broke his back and drove himself into an early grave so his children could live a better life and have the opportunity to provide a better life for their children. It is my understanding that my great grandfather never paid income tax, nor did he ever pay sales tax. He did, however, "take advantage of the system" to send his children to public schools. Education was very, very important to him and his his family. Thanks to his efforts, a few generations later, his descendants are doing some amazing things for this country. One of my cousins has dedicated his life to cancer research. Three of my cousins are currently serving in the military, one in the medical corps, one in the JAG, and one in the infantry. One of my great grandfather's descendants is practicing law in Houston, Texas and trying to provide a better life for his children as well. Of those immigrants living in the Cosby Creek apartments... I wonder what their children and grandchildren will do. Find the cure for cancer? Cure AIDS? Become president? Interesting to ponder that, don't you think? The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus, New York City, 1883 Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame, "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" |
