10,000 rooms more in the Tulum area.

According to El Universal (one of the major newspapers in Mexico city).

There are plans to build 10 thousand hotel rooms by 2030.
Lets see what happens.

I'm at work so I can't pound down the 3 or 4 Negra Modelos I need to make my Spanish really fluent.

But here goes:

10,000 rooms over 15,000 hectares

3,000 rooms in Tulum national park

Adriana Velásquez Morlet, from the national archelogical institute, said that this would cause the disappearance of the archeological zone. But she said it's inevitable. She said that they may start legal action against the development.

Araceli Domínguez, from an ecological group, said that this development would sacrifice the national treasures of Mexico.

The municipal government of Solidaridad and a consulting firm called "SUME" are proposing this.

Magic Resorts are starting work on a 600 room AI in January in the Tulum area. I've seen the plans and it looks muy lujo!

Unfortunatly it seems the $$$$ are so appealing the fools rush in, and then it is too late for the environment..so sad the lesson has not yet been learned???

Happened in Playa, so why is it a surprise that Tulum is next? New condos have been built right over cenotes in Playa, a real ecological danger to the evironment, but it wasn't stopped. Where there is money there's a way. The developers don't give a darn about protecting the reef or anything else for that matter. They will build, make $$$ and then move on to the next paradise. Progress you say. Too bad. Enjoy it while you can.

That sucks big time

There goes our favorite vacation spot. I wonder how long the quaint little Cabana Resorts we like so much will be around south of the Tulum ruins and up to the Sian Kaan arch. I wonder what will happen to the Sian Kaan building restictions if they can build huge resorts on top of Archeological sites.
I can not believe the government is allowing this. But than again I can believe it because money is the only thing that seems to count in Mexico. If you pay enough anything can get built there it seems like. I hope we can enjoy at least a few more nice vacations in the Tulum area until we don't like it there anymore.
