UGH, I just wrote the rest and it vanished before my very eyes some how ( guess I shoulda used word and cut and paste, that will teach me!!) ok Ill do this again a tad later.....By the way the rest isnt so much hotel related but more of how we spent our days and where we ate and drank (off the resort), anything specific you would like to know about the resort?

We had booked oceanview/king bed last year and ended up with Oceanfront/double beds. Have no idea how that happened but of course we wanted a king bed. We were told they would push them together and let me tell you it was great!! Like having a super duper king size bed. Didn't mind the two doubles at all and the bonus of being oceanfront.....you can't top that!!
Love RPR........can't wait to go back Do you know if Daniel Rodriguez is still there? He was the manager last year. Who did you deal with that was helpful? |

A women named Susanna was a BIG help, mid to late 20s id imagine .Im not sure of here exact title (she was supervisor of something or other),but she seemed to make things happen there . She actually set us up with the private dinner upstairs at Marie Maries. The funjett guy there was very helpfull as well (Gabriel), nice guy!
Also Lopez at the pool bar was a huge help when it came to our thirst/buzz... |

Any time Wundr...
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p> Actually day 3 and on were all kind of similar, Wake up and either hit Pellicanos for breakfast or else head to 5th to Java Joes on 10th just off 5th or another little gem we tried just around the corner from the Royal . A place called Vagabonds (actually not exactly it’s the Spanish version but very close) hang a right on 5th and its about a block or so up on the right hand side under a huge Palapa , bagels, eggs and a fruit and yogurt smoothie that was damn good, about 10-12 dollars for 2 . From there it was a walk south down 5th to the pier and then walk back to the hotel on the beach (great exercise and a way to avoid the shark like vendors). then it was either work on the tan from the pool or beach, shoot the shit one of the many couples we met and enjoy a beverage or 2 and soak up ole Sol for the rest of the day. <o:p> </o:p> Nights were generally spent hanging out on 5th having a couple at the Tequila Barrel or checking out Deseo (a tad to hip and chic and $$$$ for me) or having what turned out to be one of my favorite Margaritas over at La Parilla ( pricey - $18.00 USD with Don Julio and Grand Marnier but damn good and 1 would put quite the smile on me) plus they have damn good Guac and chips. The place we hung out most was Sharkey’s and Captain Rons Beer Bucket on 10th just off 5th where we met many of the local expats that were a great group of peeps and made me extremely envious that they were living their dream in playa (I know its not vacation for them but to wake up in paradise daily has got to make it much easier to head to work, not to mention the vibe / electricity that runs through that town that just makes you feel so damn ALIVE). I had many Tekillya shots there as well as cervesas and not one day did I wake up with a hang over, must be that electricity. <o:p> </o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We also did the F1 Off Shore excursion one afternoon which I cant recommend enough, it was a great way to spend the day out in the sun snorkeling in that amazing pool like ocean . Also those boats seriously wing across the water, full load and doing 60 mph or so was quite impressive and gave all a huge grin. <o:p> </o:p> As far as the food goes at the resort itself, well everyone has their own tastes so what might be fantastic to some might be just ok to others. I found Marie Maries to be excellent and could be compared to some of the finer places in down town Chicago . The filet mignon was great and the Venison ribs is a must try (1st time eating Venison and I was shocked how tasty they prepared it). <o:p> </o:p> As far as the Japanese steak house goes it was just ok, one of my favorite foods to go out to eat here in Chicago and it was decent but not quite what I was hoping for after experiencing Marie Maries (might have been better if the chef would have actually stood over the table he was cooking at and watched the meat cook instead of wandering off for several minutes then coming back). The sushi was decent as well and they have a nice choice of sweets, one called a chocolate roll which was AMAZING. <o:p> </o:p> Pellicanos was good and apparently at night half the place is actually a <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Brazil</st1:country-region></st1:place> style steak house which might have been new as of last week (Skewers of meat) which we didn’t try but another couple said it wasn’t bad at all. <o:p> </o:p> There’s also Spice which is a Buffet and it wasn’t bad but we’re not buffet peeps so we only went in once or twice. <o:p> </o:p> We also tried the Italian place in the Grand (the name escapes me) which was pretty good. <o:p> </o:p> Overall we loved the Royal and had a fantastic time and really enjoyed it but with that said this was our 3rd all inclusive in just over a year and a half and I think from here out it’s the smaller boutique hotels in town such as the Playa Maya, Luna Blue or Fusion. With so many dining and drinking choices in town I think its time to take the so called training wheels off. Unless of course I can get a large group of my Amigos to commit to a vacation, if that’s the case we will be back to the Royal for sure. <o:p> </o:p> For those of you that are headed to the Royol Porto rest assured, you made a great choice and will have an amazing vacation! <o:p> </o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Last edited by GRASSYASS; 10-28-2006 at 05:45 PM.. |

I'll be there Nov 11 week...can't wait! I sure hope we get a room with a good view. I guess we'll see how it all works out. I suppose there are worse things in life right! I'll be in playa...the rest doesn't matter (or so I say now!) lol

Grassyass...thanks for the conclusion of your trip...sounds great. What was involved with the F1 shore excursion? First time I am hearing about that one. Where did you catch that..find out about it etc?? also how much. We've booked a tour with Edventure Tours for 14 of us and other than that the only other thing I thought I might do is Xcaret....sorry for going off the topic here guys. I will be staying at the RPR though.
