Ak Lu'um International School Spring Fair
This year the Ak Lu’um International School will host its second annual “Feria de Primavera” on March 21st 2009 from 12 noon til 5pm in Pueblo SacBe.
Today, Ak Lu’um is blessed to share 16 different nationalities, a fact we are very proud of. Each family will be contributing a dish, food item or beverage typical to their respective home country. These dishes will be presented and sold at the International Food Stands at this year’s fair. Come sample foods from around the world! There will be a nursery area set up, selling regional trees, shrubs, flowering plants and vines, beautiful living things to enrich your life and your surroundings. We will be holding a raffle and invite the public to help by contributing interesting goods and valuable services to make it a success. If you are able to participate, please let us know. There will be fun activities for children such as traditional games, music, swimming in cenotes, etc. There will be a closing ceremony to give thanks to our father sun, led by Osar (father of Maria Tierra and Moises) This day many friendships will be strengthened within our community, and new ones will be forged. If you have been curious about Ak Lu’um, this will be an excellent opportunity to speak with teachers, administrators, parent s and current students about their personal experiences at Ak Lu’um and in Playa del Carmen. Everyone is welcome!! Please join us for this special event. All proceeds will go to support Ak Lu’um International School, Playa del Carmen’s only not for profit educational community. Namaste |

Gala Auction & Gourmet Buffet April 18th to benefit Playa's Fire Department at Zenzi
Who will be in town on April 18th?
We will be holding a Gala Auction with all proceeds to go to our local Fire Department. Tickets on sale from JEZ at Zenzi and available from Edie! Only 250 Pesos! The evening begins at 6.30 for cocktails, followed by a gourmet buffet... Cucumber rounds topped with smoked salmon mousse finished with dill cream sauce and parsley for garnish. Fresh tomato, basil, garlic and olive oil served on a pesto crostini finished with balsamic drizzled Marinated tuna with chipotle dressing served on a crispy tostada with a bed of guacamole. Ceviche Shrimp, grouper, tomatoes, red onion, cerrano peppers and cilantro marinated with fresh lemon juice. Guacamole, pico de gallo and chips Mixed green salad with fresh vegetables and citrus vinaigrette Hawaiian Chicken Grilled chicken breast served with pineapple chutney Baked pasta with tomatoes, peppers, olives, red sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. Beef kebabs, marinated with fresh herbs, grilled and served with spicy Thai sauce Fresh rolls and butter The Auction will begin at 9pm and with be hosted by The President of the Fire brigade, Brian Borjesson who has made our "Bomberos" one of the best trainned and equiped in the country. MINISTRY OF TOURISM OF THE STATE OF QUINTANA ROO PUBLIC RELEASE Cozumel, Quintana Roo. May 25th, 2009 THE MEXICAN CARIBBEAN CHOSEN AS HOST FOR WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY The natural settings of Cozumel and the Riviera Maya will be the proud hosts of World ____Environment Day next June 5th. Juan Rafael Elvira Quesada, Secretary for the Environment and Natural Resources, announced during a press conference that the State of Quintana Roo is ready to stage the event. Xcaret will be one of the venues to welcome this international meeting which will be transmitted via satellite to more than 180 countries worldwide. One of the aims of this celebration is to make an appeal to the inhabitants of the earth to become aware of the effects of climate change. This event will take place on the 4th and 5th of June on the island of Cozumel and in Xcaret, in Quintana Roo, where experts on environmental affairs, business leaders, academics, governors and personalities from the United Nations will come together to make agreements that will be presented at the Summit in Copenhagen. Among the guests are the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger; the governor of Quintana Roo, Félix González Canto; The Executive Director of the PNUMA, Achim Steiner; the President and Executive Director of the World Wildlife Fund, Carter Roberts; Renown businessman Carlos Slim Helú, and the President of the Business Coordinating Council, Armando Paredes. On the 5th of June the official commemoration will be held for World Environment Day, headed by President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, where prizes will be awarded to the winners of the following competitions: Fans of the Planet, Environmental Champions, Let’s Perform a Miracle for the Air, and the Children’s Drawing Competition. The Federal Secretary for the Environment pointed out that with this event, Mexico is reasserting its environmental leadership to the world and giving a clear sign that the nation is back on its feet after having overcome the health emergency.  |
