My wife and I were huge Dixie Chicks fans. We really liked their music and saw them live on the Fly tour. It was an amazing show. Then came the whole political thing. We decided that the Chicks had every right to speak their mind about how they felt and we have every right to show how we feel with our pocketbook. We havent spent a nickle on them since, didnt buy another cd and didnt buy tickets to their show here, which was subsequently canceled for lack of interest. This now brings up the interesting thought of should you voice your opinion in the business world. I for one would NEVER put up anything pro or con on any political candidate in my business. I would never want to possibly alienate half of my customers, its just not smart business to me. I also would probobly be still listening to the Chicks and have bought tickets to their concert if they had just been what I wanted them to be, entertainers. I much prefer to not know the political leanings of the entertainers be it conservative or liberal. IMO just be quiet and do what you do best, be that singing or acting or whatever.

Just my 2 cents.

That's your choice. They made theirs and perhaps can afford to do so. I've never cared for country music (look where I ended up living ), and wasn't a fan of the Chicks. However, since they spoke out about the chimp in office I found their taking such a stand to be admirable. But then again, I'm not originally from this country, so maybe that's why I don't get the whole boycotting thing. Most of the Brits I met certainly admired the Chicks for speaking out about the chimp.

I agree too. But entertainers are in a special position.

Well I've got tickets to go see their concert Nov 8th (close to sold out, I might add) and I've paid to download their latest music from iTunes....

I could give two 's what their political leanings are. I'm not a Bush fan...if they sung of his praises and said three hail mary's and bowed their heads in prayer for him before each concert it wouldn't phase me, because I'm not there to care about their personal life...I"m there to listen to their music. They have a right to their own beliefs.

I don't hang around EXCLUSIVELY with people who are liberal/moderate Christains...I don't ONLY buy things from people who are liberal/moderate Christians because I'm one. That would just be silly and close-minded. If I'm in the video store and MI3 is in, I'm going to rent it regardless that the freak anti-christ Tom Cruise is in it and benefiting from it's release.

So just to get this straight, if you want to speak your mind about someone whose viewpoint is contrary to yours thats ok but if you decide to not buy something from someone who's viewpoint is completely contrary to what you believe...thats silly and close-minded?
It would seem to me that if you have the first opinion, then you really shouldnt name call people who choose the 2nd. (disclaimer: please dont read anything negative into it, i am not offended or anything, it just seems an odd position to take)

If speaking out against the President of this country inspires admiration from you, you must have a full time job admiring people...its not like its an unpopular stance to take, dang near every tom, dick or harry in the entertainment business has spoken out against "the chimp".
