Questions about Allegro Playacar

I was wondering, do they have bottled water available there (in the rooms)? Also, how do you make dinner reservations there?
How long does it take to walk into town?

ETA: I did try searching on here for my answers and I did not find anything.

I can answer the walk to town since we stayed next door twice this year. The walk is appr.15-20 minutes depending on your pace.

Like most other AI's, you have to make a reservation in the morning at the service desk for the following evening. Sometimes when you check in, they give you "vouchers" to use because they only want you to go once (boo!!!!) We're staying at the Occidental Allegro playacar this year. Last year we had it booked but Hurricane Wilma hit and destroyed the property near the beach. So, we went next door to the Wyndham Viva Azteca. Just so you know, there is very little beach at Allegro. The beach pool has a wall in the ocean. When we walked by it last year, it was fully exposed. There are tons of rocks near it too. As for the walk into town, it's pretty easy and takes about 15-20 minutes. A taxi ride is much faster (3-5 minutes) for about 30-40 pesos.

stayed at Viva Azteca a few years ago, and rode bikes into town several times--a lot of fun!

All the research I did on the Allegro on other sites (not here, I found this place afterwards) showed a ton of beach. Well, I came on here and saw something totally different. Therefore, I have emailed my travel agent and I am trying to switch to Sandos Gala and I am hoping we can swing it. We have a cancel for any reason insurance thing so hopefully it works.

when is your trip? Sandols Gala is nice (great beach!), but we canceled there and decided to go to Azul Hotel in Puerto Morales, in February.

We live outside of Syracuse--we Upstaters got to stick together!

Well, I am a travel addict so I plan everything and make sure he's okay with it. He doesn't care about the resort but cares that all the excursions start early (which i LOVE!), He also has no interest in cenotes so at least I know that. We were contemplating doing the tulum tour thru this site but he has no interest in the cenote so who knows.

I don't know if this reply is too late but the beach is now fine. I went in August and there was a gorgeous white sand beach, maybe it was damaged at some point but it was paradise when we were there and it definately wasn't rocky. There are photos of this posted on my review on Trip Advisor to ease your mind if you do decide to stay there.
There is two bottles of bottled water left daily in the room but it wasn't nice it tasted sort of gloopy like lip gloss it was strange and also there was no fridge so it was warm so we often bought a bottle of water from the shop for evening or of course there is water available at the bars which wasn't too bad for us as we were just near the pool bar. Obv a fridge would have been better though.
Reservations for the resteraunt can be made the same day in the lobby. Hope this helps x

Thanks for your reply. We actually switched to the Sandos Gala, because we heard the beach was amazing!

You were at Allegro? The rocks I was talking about are in the water in front of the pool wall by the beach. The beach for Allegro IS alot smaller than the other resorts isn't it? Any problems getting chairs or a palapa?

I thought the pool was supposed to be like that, right up to the sea! We loved it cos the view when you're in the pool or sunbathing next to it is amazing! The beach where the pool doesn't just out was plenty big enough for us, and never had a problem getting a lounger, it was always fairly quiet maybe that's just the time of year we went thought August/September. As for the palapas I'm not one to sit in the shade on hol so can't comment on them. But the one day we did want shade (burnt shoulders after Xel-Ha!) We sunbathed on the upper bit with the hooded loungers - I loved them!!

The beach at the Allegro used to extend 100 feet in front of the pool. Hurricane Ivan took care of that. Still one of my favorite places to stay.
