I know they are pretty much mirror images, but anybody notice any differences that make one side better than the other?

None, they are mirror images. If you had to point out a difference, it would be the distance from the rest of the resort (and that isn't even that significantly different). Be aware that if you book the "Colonial" (or vice versa), you might get moved to the other side, in this case, the "Tropical." Barcelo actually considers them to be the same and frequently interchange them. And in reality, they are the same...
