PLaya with Kids
Hi everybody!
I'm planning a trip to PDC with my family (that is, wife, kid 2yearsold, brother, his wife and kid 4 years old and my mother). In May we stayed at Royal Hideaway but no kids are allowed there. We are looking for something similar but that also has activities for kids their ages. The travel agent recommended Azul Beach and Riu Palace. Any comments on these resorts? Any recommendation? We are basically looking for an AI, not crowdy, do not care much about nightlife, but yes about nice pools and beach and hopefully within the Playacar ersort which we liked amongst others due to the short drive to PLaya... Thanks for your recomendations Alberto |

Alberto, while the Riu Palace is a great upscale hotel, it's really not very family friendly and they don't cater to the little ones much at all. Granted the children you are bringing are young so a kid's club and child facilities are not of the utmost importance, therefore only you know if you'd be OK with a more adult oriented atmosphere vs. one that is kid friendly. I actually believe the newer Riu Palace Riviera Maya might be a better idea than the Palace Mexico if you want upscale w/kids as I do know that this particular resort has been attracting more families than the Palace Mexico. BOTH hotels are close to Playa so that much is taken care of as far as what you prefer. If you REALLY want upscale that allows kids and close to Playa, the Palace works.
As far as the Azul Beach, this is a nice family friendly property but it is VERY far north of Playa, up by the Moon Palace area and close to the airport. If going in and out of Playa is something you will be doing, I wouldn't suggest you stay here. The beach is also not very nice and the waves tend to be bigger more often than not. Another family friendly property in Playacar that is very popular is the Iberostar Tucan / Quetzal so you might want to research this if you decide against the Palace. You'll rarely hear a negative report about this hotel - but it's not comparable to the Royal Hideaway (no family friendly resort will be). |

I have been to many of the resorts in and around PDC, and I usually travel with my young kids. We are going to Iberostar Tucan in a little over a month for the 2nd visit. The first time we were there, my oldest was 5. He loved it!!! There was so much for the kids to do and my favorite, a great sloping pool entry that is perfect for the kids to play in. The jungle environment gives the kids so much to look at, there is a little playground, etc. etc. The best part is, the staff adore kids. You can tell. They stop and pat them on the head, bring them little treats, make neat things out of the napkins, you name it. They cater to the kids! I have never used the kids club, so I can't speak to that. My other suggestion would be Barcelo. They are also great with the kids, but it is further away from town.
