Are you buying outright, financing, trade-in or ??? This makes a big difference on how difficult and how many games they will try to play.

I ordered from the factory & saved delivery charge of $1000.....Plus if the rates or incentives get better in the next 8 weeks as I wait for my vehicle they honor the best rate....I am at 0% financing anyway...You might want to check into it.

You should be able to go to the Nissan website & build the exact vehicle you want...That should give you an idea what the price should be...

I got this one down pat! Go in about 3 days before the end of the month. That's when they are trying to hit there numbers. Make sure you know what invoice is. You can get lots of ideas on Edmunds.com Don't focus on monthly payments. Tell them what you are willing to pay and leave. If they are close to goal, you will get the price.

Find out from Consumer Reports what the car cost the dealer (with any options you need) and the range you should be willing to pay over that....makes it oh so easy to "negotiate" when you tell the dealer up front what you are willing to pay.....I think they charge $14 per car report...

...Edmunds is free.

and NEVER NEVER take the dealer add-ons - undercoating, fabric protectant, etc.

MY BF is an x Ford dealer (he retired and sold his)
But.........when I was buying a car, we went to the dealership and found the car I wanted.
We told the salesman we would give them $500 over their cost.
We got it for that price and I think it ended up being liek $4000 less than the asking price.
They do deserve to make a small profit for paying their help, etc...
$500 will cover their costs. I felt like I was treated fairly and I believe the dealer felt the same way.

Exactly, Jamie! You can ask to see the invoice. Offer them a few hundred above it. If they don't want to accept it, say "thanks for your time", and get up and walk out. You don't have to listen to their schpeil if you don't want to. They might meet your price; they might not. You're in the driver's seat, not them. (how's THAT for a pun!)

Oh I would be REALLY careful about asking them to show you their invoice....they have factory invoices, dealer invoices, hidden factory incentives and more....I suggest that you get a current, objective third party provider of data for you to know what the current cost, with options is to the dealer of any particular vehicle (prior to walking into the dealership).

You guys are close to getting the best deal...But not really...All dealers have an invoice price less Holdback plus dealer incentives...If you were to pay 500 over invoice and hold back is 800 you gave them a 1300 dollar profit on the front end....not to mention any rebates or dealer cash...Edmunds is a good guide but not always correct depending on the exact car you pick out with what options the vehicle has...

Where are you trying to buy the car?

this is such a myth!!!! Not true at all!!!! But some shady dealers will make a folded copy of two different invoivces to make a new one for the car you are trying to buy...If a dealer has 300 cars in stock they are not going to keep 600 to 900 invoices around..Plus they get audited by the Floorplan bank and factory on an ongoing basis..They would be fined huge dollars for getting caught doing this!
