Another Commercial Shoot at Tulum

at Club Paraiso last week they were shooting a commercial for Afrin nasal decongestant. Very little action during an all-day shoot (apparently this is typical). They even built a camera platform and installed it in about five feet of water. Part of the beach chair area was roped off. Sort of fun to watch from afar.

We watched a Visa commercial being shot at Chemumyl Bay about 6-7 years ago when it was still open to the puplic. It was the commercial with the girl and guy wearing white linen clothing. And 4 years ago we watched a Bikini catalog being shot for and Italian Clothing Line at the Venta Club Playa Maroma beach. We were there for a week and they were shooting for a week.
The 1 male model and the photographer where actually the friendliest people we encountered at this Italian Resort. I think it is now the Catalonia Maroma Resort. Sure a great beach to shoot bikinis for sure. It's fun to watch from your beach chair.

I have some stills from a Corona shoot in Xpu-ha in 2007. 10day TV commercial shoot.

I'll try to post them up later, perhaps with a bit of commentary. It was a lot of fun.

Question about the corona shoot

Hello,

Could I ask you a couple of questions about this? Just to be clear, was this a shoot for the corona commercials that are all over?
Do you know if permits were required of some sort to section off a piece of the beach to keep it clear?
Do you know what type of camera equipment and sound equipment was used?
Please reply when you have time...

I can send you my email address too if you like.

Thank you for your time,

Nic

Hi Nic... sorry, but I was just an observer and don't know any of the technicalities of the shoot. Since it was partially done on federal (public) property, I'm sure permissions were granted somewhere along the way. Nothing was sectioned off, just very obviously taken up by the film crew who would shoo you off if you got in their way.

And yes, the commercials have been televised in the US and perhaps other countries as well.

Well if you mean the one in 2007 that i was at, yes it was a 10day shoot for 10different TV commercials for Corona. These were televised in USA and prob Canada. Permits of some sort ? Don't know on that, but i'd have thought some type of permit yes.

Camera equipment - well i was there shooting Behind the Scenes and i know they used Arri film camera. I think an Arri 235 ?? Also a Steadicam for certain shots. Steadicam operator proudly proclaimed :
"I am the BEST Steadicam operator in Cancun. Well, I am the only one."

Also for one day they used a US$1m Motion Control camera - multi jointed, computer-controlled, shipped in from Mexico City. Various long cranes, expensive stuff, full on film-set level, about a crew of 90. Crew was all mexico-city based. Director was American, as was the AD.

Sound - no sound engineer as they do the sound in post-processing. Basically there's no 'script', it's all visual. They prob put music to it and sound of waves on shore, that sort of thing. The only sound was us video guys, struggling with furry Windjammer on my Rode Shotgun mic to combat what was occasionally a very strong sea-breeze.
