Political....Giuliani testing the water.

He is thinking of running for Pres on the GOP......I like him and I think many moderate Republicans will support him.

What do you think?

I think he did as wel as could be expected in the aftermath of 9-11, but I don't know enough about his stances right now to say one way or the other

He does not stand a chance of getting the nomination. No moderate, pro-choice Republican does. There are other issues that his primary opponents would love to have, like sneaking his mistress into the mayor's residence grounds in the trunk of his car.

Really, you can't make that kind of stuff up

I had forgotten about the mistress thing.

I do hope there is a move towards moderation.

I only saw him in action after 9-11 and I really liked what I saw
as for the mistress thing..................who cares
a lot of us have done it but that doesn't mean we'd make a bad president
if anything, it makes him human

I think it shows some willingness to lie, I know a lot of us have done it.

BUT staring into the camera and saying "I did not have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinski" means to me that NOTHING that Clinton ever said can ever be believed.

His will be one of the Republican candidacies that could cause a HUGE chasm in the national Republican party for '08. Chuck Hagel would be another.

I think Giuliani has a lot of flaws that will be pointed out both by his Republican adversaries and by his democratic adversaries:

Issues surrounding his pre-divorce conduct, as Ron mentioned.
Issues concerning ethics at his current business/position: eg, Bernard Kerik; who has been on his client list, and who is using that status to gain/expect influence on Giuliani's thinking on things?
He is such a hothead -- is one of the only public men I can think of who can come across as a shrew.
For all his initial leadership, he did not get the "pork" delivered for NYC, post 9-11.
For all his "closeness" with the republican governor, Giuliani did not get state "pork" delivered for NYC.
He is more a media creation than an actual politician. I think post-W, voters will be looking for more concrete experience. If Giuliani says, "But I've been running a successful business," I think after the "MBA" presidency of W, people will be running away from that kind of thinking.

As Ron says, his moderate/liberal views on abortion, gay rights will hurt him with the red-meat red-staters.

But he would be an invigorating presence on the campaign trail! I am all for keeping the campaign part of the election going right up to the convention wire.

IMHO, the '08 election has a very good chance of spawning a legitimate third-party candidacy. I am betting on some disaffected Republicans.

But there was a truly ugly tenor in his behavior toward his wife at the time. Normally I would give a crap about sexual behavior, but the vindictiveness in a lot of his comments and actions was really unappealing.

……similar reasoning as to why Arnold could never become governor of California as a republican. He did not stand a chance of getting the nomination No moderate, pro-choice Republican ever does. .

California is a bit different than the entire nation. You may call the reasoning similar if you wish, but I think that is an inaccurate statement.

Or servers in a restaurant! You can totally tell a man's character by how he treats the waitress or waiter.

Not sure about this one.
OK, you might think I'm crazy but I think that John Kasich should not give up on his hopes to run again someday.
