Smile Thanksgiving Dinner...How many relatives/friends are invited?

Okay we are hosting Thanksgiving Dinner this year....

As of today we have a total of 14 people...6 children and 8 adults....we have a big dining room table but will still have to either put the children at the table in the kitchen or set up a folding table that will extend from the dining room into the den. Not sure what the answer is yet...but was just wondering how many peeps are having large family celebrations.

Dinner will be buffet style...all food will be on the center island in our kitchen...it worked last year...I like this idea.

We are heading up to Mike's parents' house in Oklahoma. Ashley and her fiance are flying up there and we'll pick them up at the airport. Mike's parents and his brother. I assume there will be a couple of stray relatives.... so at least 10, and I'd guess a few more.

Usually we go up sometime around Christmas, and they have a bunch of Mexican food (the only time of year they do this). They did this once when Ashley was younger and she liked it so much she began to refer to it as our "traditional Mexican Christmas meal" so that Mike's mom would continue the tradition.

Since we'll all be there for Thanksgiving, she's having that meal then. Homemade tamales, enchiladas (different for those of us who have only seen TexMex enchiladas, because these are "dry" and you can pick them up and eat them--but not crunchy like a flauta or anything), beans, rice etc etc...

It'll be weird to not have turkey... but I'll get over it!!

I think it is great when the traditional Thanksgiving menu is altered.

We will have ham along with our turkey....and I wish I could convince my Mom to do lasagne or some pasta dish along with the turkey...my grandfather was Italian...but since he has passed away no one cooks the pasta anymore.

Maybe I should have a talk with my Mom. I think her Dad would be proud if we had pasta.

We are going to Johns parents house. My family will be there as well! At last count there will be about 20 or more of us! We will play games, watch movies and watch the Bronco game! They have a theatre in their house so the players will be life size to us! I am in charge of bringing desserts this year! Pumpkin for sure! And I think I'll make orange carrot cookies! Everyone loves those! Maybe I'll make some chex mix to snack on too! Who knows!

Wow they sound really good...you may have to share that recipe with me...

Football is definately a part of our Thanksgiving too.... ...and snacking on the leftovers after dinner is over.... while watching the late football game is always a hit in our house.

We are headed to my neices house this year. We are all contributing to the dinner. I get to make the CORNBREAD dressing since I make it like momma used to and my specialty veggie, Italian style green beans and artichoke hearts. Sister-in-law is making the Mostacellis (gotta have our pasta), turkey and her meat and rice dressing. Cousin Joey is making the pies and cakes, including my fav...coconut cream pie, and a congelled salad and sweet potatoes. Leonard, who will remained single forever will supply the drinks. My neice whose house we are using and can't cook at all will make the green salad, provide a honeybaked ham and the bread. We plan to pig out at 1:30 so we can be ready to watch the cowboys. Then we will wait for her Hubby, who is the head trainer to get home (if no major injuries) and we will pig out again and get all the inside info on the cowboys. Then if we can still walk and funtion, Slim and I will head across town to the Aunt's house, pig out again, play the kareoke, drink, and dance.
After we get home, I will prick my finger and test my blood sugar...If it's in the normal range, I will jump for joy...(at least as high as I can jump after pigging out 3 times)...and call my doctor on Monday and tell her I AM NOT PRE_DIABETIC. And that will be something to be thankful for. And...eat all the leftovers!

I will pm you the recipe tomorrow when I drag it out! They are so good! Last year at this time Shane was getting ready to have surgery to get his rods out! I was looking at pictures from last year and we were taking the surgical wrapping off on Thanksgiving day!! Wow it's been a year! Football has always been a tradition at our house! Much as my Mom hated it we watched anyways!

I am cooking this year and I am really looking forward to it for some odd reason. Will probably have between 10-15 people over. We usually cook a Turducken, but I am not in the mood for that this year.
I need to go dig up some new recipes.
I did find a good recipe for Pumpkin Praline Pie that I may try !

We expect about 20 could be more. Expat friends in Playa and a few friends that are visiting. We will smoke a turkey and dressing. everyone else will bring a dish or two. Should in interesting mix of foods as we all have mixed regional backgrounds and countries and this may be first thinksgiving fiesta for some. Will be a wonderful day to celebrate friends family and what we have to be thankful for.

We will have Scott's family here....a total of 18 people.
The four of us start the morning at 3:00a.m. and head to box and distribute Thanksgiving dinners for shut-ins. Come home, girls go back to bed and I start dinner. I will make turkey, stuffing, cran-raspberry salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, butternut squash/apple casserole and pumpkin pie! Other family members will bring rolls, more pies, salad, lots of wine and appetizers. Looking forward to it! Yummy!

We're also hosting - expecting 19. Tappy, I felt like I wanted to do some new dishes this year too. I love that Kraft Food & Families magazine (which is free)! They had a sweet potato casserole I am trying and a pumpkin cheesecake that looks amazing and not too challenging. Now I just need to find something festive to drink . . .

We go over to a friend's home every year out here - usually between 15-25 people there - alot of runaways from the Midwest who don't go home of the holidays. Dan makes a huge free-range turkey and the rest of us take a potluck dish.

I have usually taken lime-ginger yams, but we have this young chef living with us who is going this year - so maybe......something different this year.

None, zilch, nada. I'll be working, as usual, on turkey day

Thanksgiving is at Mom and Pop's in Kansas. I will be driving down next Wednesday, listening to some great music on the way.

Most of my core family will be there. Mom and Dad, my brother and his wife, My Aunt and Uncle, my grandmother, my cousin and his wife and kids. This is the first time in years that a majority of our family will be together. It will be great! The only one missing will be one of my cousins, she is a traveling nurse and would be the last person granted any time off.

Of course, we will also be missing my Grandmother who passed away in July and my two Grandfathers who passed a few years ago. They will be in our thoughts!

We always go my SIL's house and we have older aunts who do all the cooking which is more than fine by me! A few of our turkey day must haves: Creamed Onions, Pumpkin Cheesecake (along with the traditional pie) & Sausage stuffing.

I'd be happy just eating biscuits dipped in gravy!!

We also do the buffet set-up and there will be about 15-20 of us.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
