POLITICAL-Wassup with Pelosi?
So what is up with Nancy Pelosi? She becomes the first woman to be Speaker, leads her party to a House majority for the first time in twelve years, has been handed a golden mandate to oppose the White House policies...and what does she do? She splits the part with the same "screw the ethics, we need to be powerful" attitude that people eventually found so obnoxious in the Republican congress. Don't these people ever listen?
Pelosi's backing of Murthra over Hoyer for Majority leader seems on the surfce to be politics as usual. Murthra is a loyal Pelosi ally, anti-war and a viscous pit-bull in congressional battles. He is also disdainful of ethics controls and has repeatedly been linked to questionable behavior (although never proven). Hoyer is clean whistle but is a sworn enemy of Pelosi's (from past competitions for power in the House.) So...should Pelosi bite the bullet and accept a right hand man she can't trust in order to keep the party unified or should she get the loyalist she wants for her deputy to push the programs the Dems think important, and hope the anger over this power play will blow over? Personaly I think she overstepped her bounds. The Speaker is a special position...Speaker of the House, not Speaker of the Majority. I think she does a dis-service to the office by taking it so early and so fully into the trenches for a political win. I say, Suck it up and deal with Hoyer. If you can't work with people you don't like in your own party, how can you work with the Republicans? Note: Esquire mag did a full recommendation for the election last month, picking a prefered candidate in every race in the country! They also picked the best and worst legislators in Congress based on skill and ability to work with the other side. Among the best? Hillary Clinton for her willingness to cross party lines to get things accomplished. One of those named to the worst list? Nancy Pelosi. -Tony |

I was wondering the same thing actually...........and her comments about the government limiting the salaries of CEO's were downright communistic............I'm with Niel Boortz on this last election, it was a good thing

The House Dems just overwhelmingly elected Hoyer House Majority Leader in spite of (or maybe because of) Speaker Pelosi's haevy handed push for Murthra. Perhaps the new Demo Congress is going to be different after all.

And as Mr. Cancun said, wouldn't it be nice if we had another option? |

Pelosi is fine - a nice woman and a good politician. We're in good hands. Now if we could only have a vote of no-confidence and get Bush/Cheney outta there two years early the country would be in far better shape!! |
