"Guy's" Trip suggestions... (long post, sorry)
1st post herein, have been reading all the great info offered... great forum, with some really informed posters, (thank you).
Here's the dillio: Every-other-year my crew of 12 - 15 High School pals, (all 40-somethings, some married, some not, some high-maintainence, some not), do our Guy's Trip Reunion. (nice run-on sentence right? )In the passed, our trip has always been Vegas (which i am personally pretty-much, completely done with)... I just spent a week at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya, with the Family, and it was wonderful. I was told while there, that the Playa Del Carmen area would work for a Guy's trip. SO, Are there any suggestions out there for a property that would work for a Guy's Trip? Some of the fellas are still very much into the mix-and-mingle-romance, mode... while some fellas are mainly into the blowing-off-some-steam, mode... some fellas do both. An all-inclisive would work well, a great beach and pool is needed, a quality spa/gym,,, and of course some great night life... My post is too long , and i offer my sincere apologies... and thank all in advance for their time and expertise.Footnote: A few folks suggested Cancun... while it's a great suggestion, noteworthy is the fact that some of the married fellas' wives would put a "no-go" stamp on their husbands passport. Playa Del Carmen, has less "infamous" baggage attached THANKS ALL!! |

Not a long post at all. Sound like Playa is juuuuust what you fellas are looking for. Sorry, no help on the AI, but GPR and RPR are all on the beach and in the middle of that action. Check out Taln's recent trip report on the RPR. Good pictures of the place and she said they had a nice gym too.

Great info you guys...
As far as the "trip planning" tab goes i will check it out... and glad Playa Del Carmen will work... it looks really awesome. We won't be going for a while (about a year), but, I will need info (ammo ), for insisting that PDC will work for our Guy's Trip... we have a PlanningCommittee meeting in a few weeks.Do you guys know of anyone that did a Guy's Trip or a Gal's Trip, and where they stayed? The two places on the beach as suggested by CMSItaly sound great... and as soon as i figger out what "GPR" and "RPR" mean , i'm gonna check them out. I saw a thread for "hole in the wall" places (my personal favorite kinda place)... are there places condusive to the mix-n-mingle segement of our crew? Thanks you guys!! |

Book the cheapest hotel you can find
Book the cheapest hotel you can find in Playa, Then pick a beach to hangout on.... Remember AI`s are 2 people per room....I know, I don't want sleep with some 40 + year old snoring + farting man! lots of rooms for less then $75US per night! Also there is a zillion places to eat and drink in playa! Do the math!

I agree about going non-AI. Too many great, inexpensive restaurants in Playa, and like eugene said lots of hotels @$75 a night. That is what we do (Fusion hotel)
But having a big group it might be different. Regardless you will have fun!! |

great info...
AI advice well appreciated...
Hey Eugene... 40+ year old snoring and farting!? You sound like my son. Most of these blokes are high maitainence fellas... defenitly need an awesome beach/pool area as well as a spa/gym... Most of the fellas travel much of the year, and will need to chill, but in a nice atmosphere... close to 5th Ave would be great too. I'll check the GPR and RPR, but a non-AI as suggested may work better... Any more suggestions as to where to stay (non-AI), would be great... Thanks you guys, i know i'm being a nudge with all my q's... just trying to figger it all out... Thank you! |

Where were you guys when my friend and I were in PDC? Sounds like it would have been one big party! hahaha Well, I just returned from a week at the Royal Porto Real. Loved it. Great times. Although the hotel wasn't one big "party" spot...we made it one. But the best part is that it is on a GREAT stretch of beach (better than the Grand Porto Real's) and in the heart of downtown. All the cool bars are just a short walk away. The hotel itself had great food and a fantastic gym/spa. The pool was great too. Some fun activities going on that you can take part of if interested. I found that the crowd was a good mix. Not too young. If I had to take an average, I'd say it was a mix of thirty somethings to fifty somethings. There was always some fun/somewhat loud in my opinion, music going on at the pool. This made for a fun and upbeat atmosphere. And, if your group is anything like my friend and I....you'll make a dance floor right in the middle of the pool area. Get a few people to join in drinking some shots....and you'll have your own disco goin' on right under the stars and the moon!
My first trip was to the Riu Palace Riv. Maya. Amazing resort, but much more for couples...and much more quiet in my opinion. SO - if I was to plan a girl's week again, I'd do the RPR if I want to be on the beach. Off the beach, I'd do the Mosquito Blue Hotel. That's uber chic, and would definitely suit your somewhat high maintenance friends too. I'm so envious! Have fun planning....and read up on this forum. Tons to learn. ps - you can read my trip report. It's labeled "trip" under the General section, and I accidentally also posted under the All Inclusive tab too under another title....you'll figure it out. feel free to ask any questions you may have. |

I'd look at the RIU's. The Palace Mexico should suit the high maint. crowd; next door the RIU Yucatan has a pretty good party crowd. Riu Tequila (across the street) has a club that can have some good times into the early morning hours. Then there is a RIU Playacar up the street towards PDC, don't know much about it. Upside is that if you stay at the Palace and there isn't anything going on you can cruise to the others with minimal time loss. The beach in this area is very nice. Don't know what the scoop is at the new Palace Riviera Maya, presume you could go there too (except for dinner buffett and ala cartes) if you stay at the Palace Mexico. This area is just a short taxi ride from downtown PDC.

When you've got a group that size, the nice thing about an AI is there are less decisions to make about where to eat drink etc. If you do AI pick a place close to town so you have that option too. I've stayed at the GPR and would not describe it as a party place. However it is close to 5th.
