True, but in all honesty as long as you have the paper at the end how you got there doesn't really matter. I work my ass off and I try hard, because there are certain people for me who make it like a competition, and I like to see the looks on their faces when they are not at the top of the class. I also think it is completely unfair that I work my ass off and can't apply for scholarships because my parents happen to have sound professions, and if needed be could pay for my education.
Scholarships should be for everyone and should be based on how hard you work.

...academic scholarships are not based on financial need

you just need to work harder

Actually alot of them are...maybe not where you are but where I am......and I don't need to work harder at all, I have the highest GPA in my program. I have a scholarship, but it is one of the few ones where financial need has no part in it, and you have to be recommended by your profs.
