Hi! Arriving in Playa tomorrow!!!

Hi! My name is Susan. My hubby and I will be arriving in Playa tomorrow for our honeymoon. We were married on Oct. 12th. We are staying at Aventura Spa Palace. We are going on the Tulum and Beyond tour on Saturday. This is our first trip to Playa and we are so excited. We were supposed to go last year, where my hubby was going to propose to me, but the hurricanes sort of messed things up a bit!!! We will probably go to Xel-Ha one day. Other than that we just plan to relax and hang out. We are staying for a week.

Look at todays weather! I wish I was there. Last year we ended up at Los Cabos, Mexico due to hurricane Wilma. We did make it back to Playa del Carmen April 29, 2006 for a week and loved it.Was our 2nd trip to Playa.Have a great honeymoon, you will be glad you are staying for a week(and will not want to leave when the week is up).The COLOR of the water just gives you a natural high it is so BEAUTIFUL. November is a great month to stay in Playa as the weather is just fantastic, not too hot, and evenings may get alittle cool if sitting along the water and the breeze is blowing.I almost needed a light sweater on our November 2004 trip to Playa around 9-10 P.M. one evening.Congrats on getting married and again have a great honeymoon in Playa.

My son and his girlfriends stayed at the Aventura Spa Palace back in May. The place was fantastic and the pictures he took of the place were to die for.......you will love it! It has to be one of the most beautiful resorts in the area.

We got back last night and I have spent today in bed, depressed! How the heck do you return to reality after that??? I don't want to unpack or do laundry, open my mail. The house is a mess.... UGH! I just laid here all day with the covers over my head and dreamed about the beach in Playa.

We had a great time and I will definitely write about all the things we did. It was just absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed it so much! The beaches were beautiful, the weather was great, the people were so friendly and nice. We just enjoyed everything we did.

The weather here in Dallas is crappy! Sleet, snow, ice, 30's. I just want to crawl back in bed. Actually I want to get back on the plane and back on the beach. It just sucks being here!!! How do you deal with getting back to reality???

I will upload my photos soon!

Great advice!!! It was really chilly the first three nights / mornings. You had me so freaked out that I took like four different jackets. I always overpack wherever I go. I totally didn't know what to expect!!! I am glad I did though cuz I get cold easily and it was chilly. It warmed up towards the end of our trip, but the weather was great!

Thanks,
Susan

Aventura Spa Palace was beautiful - the spa, lobby, pool etc where gorgeous. The grounds and landscaping were impeccable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. (I wasn't crazy about the time share people, even though we knew about them before we went, it still isn't completely clear when you arrive who works for the hotel and who works for the time share.)

The amenities were endless.... yoga, gym, snorkeling, tennis, basketball, bicycling, kyaking, I can't even think of everything. The lagoon was good too. At times we missed not having a beach (we knew there was no beach before we went), but then the lagoon was great. It was fun for snorkeling.

The things that I didn't think were that great - the food and the room. Both were very unimpressive for a 5 star hotel and for the price they charge. I expected a better room with a more comfortable bed. As far as the food, we didn't have a single meal that was impressive. The desserts were downright awful.

We did enjoy our stay, Aventura is a beautiful place and there were so many things that we did enjoy. I just don't think it deserves 5 stars.

I'll write a full report as soon as I get my pictures uploaded.

Chris and Josh - I absolutely love your trip report!!! I just read the entire thing and it is helping me get out of my "return to reality" funk. It gives me great ideas about our next trip. We did the big AI for our first trip - hey, I had never done it, so I wanted to try it once, but I think next time we will do the small hotel with a good location like y'all did. We spent alot of time going on excursions and on the beach, so we weren't even at the hotel. Our food sucked!!! I can tell from the pictures how great your food was. So, yeah, I am rethinking our plan for next time. Thanks for the detailed report. It gives me some great ideas.

And Chris... someone already ate some of that guacamole.... LOL!
