Birthdays, Christmas, kids in Playa Del Carmen

Hi,

My family will be in Playa Del Carmen for Christmas this year. My children ages 2 and 4 will be along as well as their grandmother. We are staying in a condo in the the North section of town.

My questions:

My son's second birthday is 12/22. Any ideas for places to have a kid's Birthday celebration? Any restaraunts or a good bakery to get a birthday cake?

Are there any Christmas-related activities for kids in the area? Should we be aware of any Mexican holiday traditions?

Where would be good for dinner on Christmas Eve?

Are there any Christian churches that hold mass in English?

Thanks for your help!

Wal-Mart and Mega bakeries both carry premade birthday cakes. If you write down what you'd like them to write on it, they'll even do that for you if they are available. There is a kids party favor store on Constituyentes, between 35 and 40. I can never find helium balloons, however. I'm not sure where to suggest you have the party, however, sorry!

They will probably be having some things going on in the Municipal square at 15th avenue and 10th street. They usually have lots of decorations, concerts, kids performances/pageants, etc.

Everything will be open, I believe, so take your pick! There's tons of great restaurants to choose from.

I know that there is a lovely Christian church in Paamul with a great bunch of people, with services in English, but I don't know of any in town.

There is always McDonalds or Burger Kings with their play areas. I agree with Heather on the cakes, but almost anywhere you buy one they are good. Their is a Catholic church in town a few blocks from Wal-Mart but they do not have English Services yet. It really looks beautiful for the holidays with the Manger and decorations. The Municipio (City Hall) always has itself decorated for the holidays and has many events going on.

We will be staying in the North End too...

Hi there, alexb. Community Fellowship Church of the Riviera Maya is an English-speaking, non-denominational Christian church. As Heather mentioned, our church is located in Paamul. We'd love to have you join us for Christmas!
We do have a service for children.
If you need any more specific information, pleae feel free to PM me and I will try to answer any questions you might have.

It sounds like you are looking for a Catholic Mass for Christmas. I'd like to encourage you to go to the church in PdC for Mass, even though it is in Spanish. We've gone and not understood hardly anything that was said... but we knew what was happening. It was very moving to celebrate the Mass in another culture... not focusing on the words but on the universal mysteries and the connection we have with Catholics around the globe.

When the priest held up the Eucharist, we didn't understand the words that he was saying, but we knew what we were witnessing. It was very powerful and beautiful. I was moved to tears.

Have a merry Christmas and a wonderful trip!

There is a Planet Kids (moon bounce, pool, etc.) across the highway to rent for kid parties (38th St. or around there). I've heard kids love it!
