November/December town developments general news etc

Here's a mixed bag of items of interest:

Plans have been announced for a 17km Playa bypass. It will start around Xcaret and join the highway again North of Playa. Let's not think about when it will actually happen yet.

Extensive planting continues along the middle of the highway making the Cancun trips more pleasant.

The Mayakoba hotel has a superb new entrance to wow the oncoming PGA tournament. The gate house marble walls are back illuminated at night making a very cool effect.

The highway entrance to Ave Juarez is also getting a welcome makeover.

There's a big development in progress at the very south beachside end of Playacar. Hotel, mini private estate, any ideas?

UPDATE: Panaderia, a Cancun favourite of ours, has opened a branch on Ave Constituyentes just opposite the side of Mega. The Cancun branch makes wonderful cakes, pastries and is also a restaurant serving wonderfully presented crepes, salads etc. I hope they do the same here.

Best Medical Centre has opened on the West corner of the highway and Ave Juarez. They provide emergency care, diagnostics, health assessment/check overs, scans, xrays, 4D (time and space) pregnancy scans etc, etc. It's very professional and they've invested over $1 million in the latest equipment. The medical team are from Mexico City.

For those of you tired with the bank queues at Scotia Inverlat, try the newly opened branch at Centro Maya opposite Sams Club. They also open on Saturdays until 3pm - nice.

Then pop over to the new Vips restaurant (next to Sams) and have a taste of a Mexican institution. Fast efficient service in Playa! Gasp at the regulation short haircuts for the ladies.

Hacienda (the tax office) in Cancun is moving to swanky new offices opposite the South side of Plaza las Americas. The service is polite and efficient. Personal representation is becoming de riguer and not middlemen accountants. You'll be surprised at how much easier some things really are!

Ana Barbara, a famous Mexican singer, is having her baby c-section at the new Galeria hospital in Cancun. She has her away from the big city home there. SHE HAD IT, ALL ARE WELL.

Luis Miguel, the master crooner, had an exclusive concert in Cancun. Missed it too busy.

Local big happy news, for those who know them, Charlie and Talina are getting married in December! THEY DID THE DEED, IT WAS A FINE EVENING.

1st December is Calderon's (the President elect) big day to officially take office. Fox is handing him the keys to the Presidential home (Los Pinos) tonight. The sore losers party with waning support, PRD, want to disrupt the ceremony tomorrow in congress.

Update: Calderon and Fox got into Congress OK and completed his initiation with the support of the majority. Then Calderon spoke to the movers, shakers and glitterati at the enormous National Auditorium to great applause. Afterwards he crossed the road to inspect the troops and meet the scrambled egg big chiefs. They put on a fine and immaculate display.

Amlo was reported to have a crowd of followers moving about in the street to no effect. Later the number reported to be protesting in the Zocalo was an unimpressive 50.

The small magazine shop next to HCs has closed down.

Coral Dental are expanding to more rooms on the top floor. The new section will be a dental spa, a more relaxing environment for certain procedures. We've fitted the window shades too

Thanks for the news on the developments in PdC. I will have to go check out VIPS. All Playa needs now is a Sanborn's.

Actually, I think we're getting one at the new Plaza las Americas (North Playa, West side of the highway). As yet only the Cineopolis has opened.

Sanborns uniforms are right out of Star Trek.

Does the price quoted include the "happy ending" or is that an additional charge?

was flipping channels when I came across the news story on that, and her doctor (Luis Medellin) appeared to comment on the delivery. To me he'll always be more famous for having delivered Elsa and Viggo.

Panaderia is open!
Ave Constituyentes between 25th and 30th.
The Cancun branch is excellent for crepes, cakes etc. So we'll have to investigate this one...

The small magazine shop next to HCs has closed down.

Coral Dental are expanding to more rooms on the top floor. The new section will be a dental spa, a more relaxing environment for certain procedures. We've fitted the window shades too
