What To Do?
My wife, myself and two other couples are going to Playa for the first time in June. I would like some experienced Playa travelers to each give me a list of five "must do's" in Playa. Restaraunts, clubs, beaches, shops, whatever. I don't want to waste time when I'm there. Your experience and expertise is greatly appreciated.

There are so many good things to do that it is hard to narrow it down. I have not been there near as many times as some other board members, so here are things on my list to do as well as things that I don't miss doing when I go down there:
1. snorkeling, whether in Playa or Cozumel. I've never been to Cozumel but I snokeled in Playa and it was still great!! 2. Eat at Babe's Noodles and Bar. That is still one of my favorite's, but there are many other good places to eat, I have my list for our May 2007 trip of TONS of places I have read about in Trip Reports. 3. Eat breakfast / lunch on the beach. 4. Go to Tulum / Chichen Itza to see some ruins, Chichen Itza is farther, but it has more to see / larger stuff to see. 5. See a cenote. I have not seen one in a while so this is on my list of things to do. Hope this helps!! |

I agree with the above post and specifically:
Snorkeling in Cozumel or Akumal Eat at Babe's, La Cueva del Chango, HH Monterrey, lunch on the beach at La Tarraya See a take a tour of some ruins Playa.info has the best ones they will include a cenote which is a must as well. Go to Alux cave for a drink before dinner (cave bar that is truly unique) People watch on fifth |

Babe's noodle bar was excellent and also la Palpa's Hemingway was very nice. Gotta order the Mayan coffee's. Casa Cenote had great snorkling also. Huge reef across the street from the cenote itself. Little beach bar for drinks and lunch but you would have to rent a car. Have fun. We took some good pictures of all these places.

) out past all of the AI's to the south to a little cove. I think it was behind Xcaret. It was neat to me! We also walked down the north end of the beach, past the pier at constituyentes and past the royal porto real, and I think even past Shangri La and Las Palapas, to a section of beach that had some boats parked, and we just went out with ourselves and no guide. We had life jackets and snorkels and fins of course, and I have to admit that it was quite a swim out to the reef, but really not too bad. The only thing I worried about doing that was if a boat came by it may not see us and then that would not turn out well I am sure. But my parents stayed at Grand Porto Real and we just used the life jackets and snorkels they let you take, they did not care, I think the hotel even suggested it as a place that you can go snorkel on your own for super cheap (read... FREE!!)I never have gone to Cozumel, so I don't have that to compare the snorkeling in Playa to. |

Definately take a day and go Snorkelling in Cozumel it is like swimming in an aquarium amazing.
Babes is one of our favourite places to eat also El Fogen on 30th and 28th for a real Mexican experience as this is a favourtie spot of the local. There are just to many wonderful restraunts to pick from. Playa Info has lots of wonderful tours to take look under the directory. Heather will help you out. Parasailing is another fun thing to do. Hope you have a great holiday......

That looks amazing! I'm adding that to my list for next time. My favorite things were snorkeling..the Sea to Cenote tour through this site was amazing...and riding a scooter around Cozumel, Since then I've heard that is dangerous, but wow, what fun! Collecting sea shells...playing in the waves..eating tacos from the little carts on Juarez ave and 7th early in the morning. If you are a ruins person, Coba or Chichen Itza are both awe inspiring. How many times in your life will you get to climb a pyramid? A word of advice on that..do a little walking ahead of time...they are very tall! |
