Susie, thanks for posting that song. What a wonderful tribute. It was so nice to see so many people gathered to celebrate the life and mourn the passing of our friend. There were a lot of photos taken. If I can get my hands on them, I will post them here. I wish there was some way to let his "family" know just how much he was loved here.

I apparently missed both of you at the wake. I talked with Jill for awhile, but didn't ask about either of you. Either you've both changed, or my eyesight has deteriorated?

(I hope that you sampled my chicken wings - they went FAST! I never thought there would be that many people. Was a great turn-out.)

I took a number of photos, and someone offered to post them if I e-mailed them to her, but I forgot to get her e-mail address. My "attachment allotment" only holds about 10 photos. If you can handle about 50 photos, I'll e-mail them to you after I clean them up with PhotoShop. Just arrived home, so it might be a day or two.

I only knew Larry Lawrence ("Bones") for five weeks - and one hurricane - but he will always be one of those special "characters" in my life. I'm certain there were some troubled periods in his past life (although he never labored over them,) His present was always talkative and up-beat; and his future seldom went past tomorrow's Noon.

My fears of him dying alone and forgotten were eliminated with the turn-out at his wake. I thank the people of Paamul and Playa for hosting such a memorial. I only hope that his family becomes aware of his many friends.

So sorry you all have lost such a good friend. A lot can be told by how many people say good things about you when you are no longer around. That said, it sounds like he made a woderful impression on many lives! May he RIP!

Here are some of the photos Bob took at Bone's wake. a lot of them came out very blurry but I will post some just so everyone can see how truly loves Bones was. RIP amigo.

I grew up with Larry in the middle of Indiana. We ran together for quite a while. Hitched up to Chicago in 1968 or '69 to see Johnny Winter when he first got famous, at a place called the Kinetic Playground. Muddy Waters came out towards the end of the show and blew everybody away. We got outta there around 2:00 in the morning and went to catch a city bus back to the Greyhound station but not one of 'em would stop for a couple long haired crazed looking kids. Walked maybe 5 miles through Spanish Lords territory (we knew this because it was spray painted on many buildings and fences, "SPANISH LORDS RULE". Wino's were falling out of doorways....it was an experience I'll never forget and I reckon he didn't either.
My mom called up a couple days ago and she said the obit in the local paper sounded like someone who used to come by the house back in high school days, and it was. I hadn't seen or heard much from him since he moved to Minnesota and I sure never figured he'd end up in Mexico.
Like I said, we didn't see much of each other later in life but I'll sure miss knowing that we're both still walking somewhere on the same planet.

If he did, I never saw any of it... seemed he turned most of his creativity into figuring out how to make things work, and turning a bunch of trash into treasure, creating his home and surroundings.

Thanks for your post, Tweed... it's good to hear about his life before Mexico.

"Bones" once showed me a collection of his drawings from the back of his truck/camper. He had an artisic touch.

An extremely out-going personality, and warmed everyone he met.

Certainly a person to look forward to seeing again, when headed for vacation.

Thanks for the story. Sounds exactly like him! I remember seeing him immediately after he walked all the way (~20 km) back to Playa from Ricco's cabin during Hurricane Wilma. His feet were covered with blisters, but he had apparently run out of cigarettes.

Tweed: I just went to your website. Excellent! My son got me into the Blues a few years ago, and it's all I listen to now. Perhaps some day I'll run across you at Captain Dave's, and we'll listen to Memo and Carlos.

Thanks Bob, glad you enjoyed the visit over there. It's a weird place that just grew on it's own into whatever it's become now. I was glad to hear Larry still had some of his drawings. We all thought he was pretty good at it when everybody was still young. Seems like he used to get jobs painting signs for a while after he got outta high school. I think he played bass guitar at one time too.
That guy would tell a joke and get to laughing so hard his face would turn beet red and get all of us laughing watchin' him laugh. He'd just sort of erupt out of nowhere and we'd all fall out.
