this is a great idea! They will probably drive anyway... If this could be enforced it would be a great tool.

i see the benefits of staying in school, but what about kids who drop out and actually get a job? some people aren't cut out for school and if they ljoin the workforce i can't see how they should be faced with the consequence of losing their license.

Hmmmm..... I don't know. I guess it is a good idea, in theory.

It sure wouldn't fly out west, especially in Alberta right now, though. There are record numbers of young men dropping out of high school right now- to go work in the oil sands fields at Fort MacMurray.

At the factory where I work, they have an unwritten policy about discouraging that, they will not hire anyone under 18. I sure wish the oil industry would do that....you get 18 year olds making huge money, they blow it all, spend it on drugs and fast women...then when the oil runs out, they will be undereducated and broke and 40-ish, what then?

When our son turned 16 he wanted to get his license.

We told him he had to wait a year, had to take and pay for Drivers Ed and had to pay for the increased cost of the car insurance.

He waited until he was 18 before he got his license

Ditto for our daughter-same rules--she got hers at 17.

Legislating morality or behavior is seldom successful.

Students who stay the course and succeed are almost always self motivated to a certain degree. The desire to excell is instilled at home.

I want kids to stay in school, but I want them to be there.

If the politicos really want to make a difference: sufficiently fund the schools in a fiscally responsible manner, stress fundamental skills especially reading, demand accountability, measure results and most importantly - create an environment where teachers and students can flourish.

yeah...IF the family farm is still a worthwhile business....less and less of them around all the time, unfortunately.
Anyway-to be a good farmer these days, an Agriculture degree or at least a Vog Ag diploma, is pretty much a necessity.
