Working an internet business in Mexico without visa...legal?

I want peoples opinions/thoughts. I just got married to a woman from New Zealand. We were living in Canada. She is applying for Canadian residency through the Canadian consulate in New Zealand. ( Its faster wait times if you apply outside of Canada. 9 months as opposed to 2 years.) However, she needs to remain outside of Canada, until the residency comes through. We opted to move temporarily to mexico, in the interim, so we could be together.

Now my work is worried that I'm a liability for them because I'm working illegally in Mexico. But am I?

I don't do any work for any Mexican company. I don't get paid by any Mexican company. All I do is live here and work on the internet with my Canadian customers.

Do people have any idea if I'm legal or not. If not, do you have any idea of what type of visa I should be getting? Your help is much appreciated as I really don't want to be separated from my wife.

Thanks,

fenton

It's my understanding that you're not doing anything illegal if you are not paid by a Mexican company. I think you could do what you do on a tourist Visa, though I suppose you could get a retirement FM3 as well. I'm not sure exactly who would either a) know, or b) be bothered by what you do for work here.

As far as you are not getting paid by a Mexican company it does sound corect to me, but better check with the Migration department, this is not trivial thing.
