Santa arrived early in Abingdon today...in a horse drawn carriage....
...this is a yearly treat for the neighborhood kids.... Michael sat down with Marissa this morning and helped her write a letter...she at first did not want to hand it to Santa and didn't want to leave the front porch ...but Daddy explained that Santa would think he wanted a Barbie if he handed him the letter.... So with lots of encouragement from Mommy and Daddy she agreed to walk outside and hand Santa the letter ... Shortly after she finished the letter Mack ran outside and heard the jingle bells and yelled "Santa is here...he's here!!!!" Mack ran right up to Santa and Marissa turned and started to run back into the house.... ...but with a little hug and kiss and lift from Daddy she agreed and walked out...said hi to Santa...and even posed for a picture. Two candycanes later and she is all smiles ...very proud of her overcoming her fears....Thanks Santa. Just wanted to share this happy Christmas story with everyone....hope everyone makes many happy memories this Christmas. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by MsRubio : 12-16-2006 at 03:38 PM. |

Yay for Marissa...that's a big thing to overcome. Good for her--NOW she can get that Barbie!
I love the horse drawn carriage... we have the fire engine doing the mini-siren come through behind Santa who rides in a convertible... that was last Saturday and we didn't take pics of that, just Riley trembling on Santa's knee later on at the fire station. But the carriage is really neat. Thanks for sharing. ![]() |

Very nice pics of the scenary, and the kiddos!
Our Santa(s) land(s) by helicopter. Crowded airspace and restrictions against animals (raindeer) near the malls, (unless they are a seeing-eye animal)... are the reasons given for not showing up in the sleigh. Of course those restrictions are lifted on x-mas eve and day, but then Santa is way too busy to make personal appearances at malls ![]() |

Monica... I get such a kick out of seeing mini-Zoomb (Mack) and mini-Rubio (Marissa)!
btw, Santa came around today on the fire truck. Normally, I'm the big goofball adult out there waving but I was grinchy and went back to sleep on the sofa ![]() Gonna put up the tree later and snap out of it! What a fabulous neighborhood tradition! |

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
I am very proud of Marissa...believe me when she heard Santa was coming I was surprised that she even considered going out on the porch to wave to him...let alone write a letter and hand it to him. Yes she is growing up...too fast I am afraid. And yes she will get that Barbie (or two) this Christmas. ![]() Quote:
I just love the tradition the neighborhood community association has started. They do sometimes come around on the firetruck too...but it is always at night and we just stand in the door and wave. This is neat cause Santa stops and takes the time to pose for pics and hand out candycanes and collect letters. Have fun decorating your tree tonight. |

Looks like so much fun. I understand your daughters fear. This was the first year my daughter Emma (4) saw Santa at the Mall. I tried to get her to go talk to him so we could get a picture. She wasn't having any part of that. The woman says "now you know why we don't ask you to pay until afterwards." Emma wouldn't even turn his way.
Your neighborhood looks very nice! |

Our neighborhood santa came on a fire truck with all the bells and whistles!! First came an ambulance that warned people that "Santa is here, come out and say HELLO" Of course we went out, myself , my 2 daughters(aged 14 and 15) and my son (aged 9). Who do you think was waving their hands like a mad woman?? ME!!! I remeber how great it was to see our young ones tremble with fear AND excitement at seeing Santa!!Sounds like Marissa got over her fear and the holiday spirit won!! |
