<TD> To My Democratic Friends: "Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. We also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher." Nothing like using the holidays to denigrate people you disagree with. I'm still amazed that people assert their belief in a so called Christian holiday by engaging in a cultural war against anyone who doesn't share their beliefs. Somehow that doesn't seem to exemplify the philosophy espoused by the Hebrew speaking dark-skinned Palestinian Rabbi who is the inspiration for such holiday.
BTW, this shouldn't be on the general forum. A thread whose purpose is not to promote Playa but rather to belittle people who don't agree with the poster should properly be on the off topic forum. But then again, when you're out to put people down, it probably doesn't matter where you post . |

Speaking for myself I think that "joke" has worn pretty thin. Would a joke about the hypocracy of Republican Christians being more concerned about whether or not their local grocery clerk says "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" instead of caring about who is cold, hungry or homeless be treated as funny on this board...or would there be outrage? I think the latter.
The whole right wing "people are too PC" attitude on this board needs some counter balance...and making cheap jokes at the expense of people who disagree with such philosophy isn't the way to achieve it. And I'm not quite sure how anyone gets to "assure" others that the purpose of this "joke" was not to denigrate anyone but merely to poke fun at them (!!!) . What the hell is the difference between making fun of someone (making them other and lesser than you) and denigrating them? -Tony Last edited by Tony&Cheri : 12-17-2006 at 05:38 PM. |

Why is everyone so touchy this month? It's the holidays, one that (what ever you believe in) is meant to wish peace and joy to mankind. Instead of fighting thru posts..send a pm to the offender...and help keep the peace...or just don't respond. Silence is golden....Now..I need to follow my own advice. ![]() |
