I am so sorry to hear about all the troubles you are having with the landlord. I would do what Bonny said to do also. Sending prayers your way.

Some good news in all of this, our attorney said if we're out of the apartment by the first of January and the place is cleaned, we are legally entitled to receive the security deposit back. He said the landlord has 21 days to return the deposit or he'll then be held liable for twice the amount of the deposit. Our lawyer also stated that we don't have to pay another month's rent as we didn't sign the lease. Hope this all works out. Keep your fingers crossed.

Je....SUS! I did not expect to read that when I opened this thread. I am SO sorry about all this. Keep your chin up and know that the current problems you are facing will pass...and I'm very, very sorry to hear about your mom.

Thanks Babaloo, but I want to make one thing clear. The deposit IS minor, it really isn't an issue at all in the large picture of all the things that happened. I guess it was more of the landlord being a jerk. Maybe I didn't phrase things correctly. I don't want anyone to think we, my sisters and I, are worried more about the money than my mom's passing. Sometimes it's just easier to focus on something so trivial as a security deposit rather than having to look reality in the face.

I never thought that for a minute. I hope the service was beautiful and that you all are getting through each day.

Just saw this thread and am very sorry for your loss, Beachy.
I hope that she just went peacefully in her sleep- it sounds as if she did....
Also sorry about the trouble with the landlord. And what a lot of work to have to pack up her things in such a rush. I had to go through all of my mother's clothes after she died last January. I waited until April when my father was off visiting his brother-in-law in Tucson, and took the week to go through everything- it was hard and I couldn't imagine trying to go through everything so quickly like you had to.

Oh Semura, Just saw this thread also. I am sooo sorry. My best friend just went thru the exact same thing with her father. The family was getting together at her sister's house the week before xmas. Every one was there but their dad. After calling him at his apartment, some of the family drove over there and found him dead in his recliner with the phone in his hand.
He died of a heart attack also. It was one of the hardest funerals that we ever went to. He was a very close friend of ours.
Our deepest sympathy goes to you and your family. It's so hard to lose a parent and before the holidays seems to make it worse. My heart goes out to you. We'll have to toast to her when we see you in Playa, take care.
