Yes, actually, there are those new condos (and whatever else) immediately east of the airstrip, sandwiched in between that and Plaza Antigua, and that was what prompted Delmy to inform me of that, because I looked at those and said, gee, I'm not sure how attractive it would be to me to buy a condo right here in the middle of X, Y and Z and with the airstrip right there, to boot.

Here are a few pics I took of Playa (flying into CZM) in May of 2006.
Highway 307 and the size of town north of it....

Good shot of the golf courses and AI's in Playacar. You can also see the 2 piers in the upper right hand corner of the pic....

You can fill in the area at the top of the second photo with houses, as well. That is where I am currently sitting.

I heard somewhere on my last trip down (a few weeks ago), that the new Tulum airport would be a domestic airport, i.e., not for the jumbo jets full of passengers from north of the border. So maybe for those people who have to change planes in Mexico City to get to CUN, they can go straight to Tulum? I can't imagine changing planes in CUN to fly to Tulum since it's such a short drive, but I would definitely fly to Tulum if I could get a direct flight from up here.

I expect that many of the tourists flying into Chichen Itza International Airport (CZA) will instead book flights into Tulum International (as soon as the terminals are open). This could even bring an end to International flights into Chichen Itza International.

Who flies into CZA? I didn't even know they had international capability there. I mean, other than for hurricane emergency stuff.

It is an International Airport. Look it up. My realtor told me all about the place.

Yes, I could look it up, but since you were the one saying tourists were flying into CZA, I thought maybe you knew more about it and could tell me where people were flying in from. You know, since your realtor told you all about it, you might share your knowledge.

So I did look it up, and I couldn't find any evidence of "international" flights into or out of CZA. I did find a public relations piece that claims they can handle 747s (on their 9600-foot runway), but it seemed to be a piece about selling the idea of flights into CZA rather than CUN. Didn't sound like they were there yet.

So maybe they're developing CZA as well as Tulum, spreading the wealth, so to speak.

I am not aware of any major airlines flying into CZA from the U.S.

Well, if you don't mind me saying so, and I hope you don't, you might do the same regarding your own previous comment:

Call ASUR as I did. They have a website and you can get their phone number. Maybe you find out a little more than I was able to if you can get to the proper person

Fair point, Steve. In my defense, however, I was sharing a rumor I'd heard about a situation off in the future in Tulum, while the CZA thing was apparently current and I was trying to get more information about that. As Shammy said, though, it doesn't seem that any flights from the US go into CZA at this point. Perhaps it's "international" for short flights from Belize/Costa Rica?

Guess I was just feeling cranky last night. Sorry if that came through in my writing.
