Tell me about OCCIDENTAL GRAND FLAMENCO XCARET!
Hi all! My husband and I went to PDC area last March and stayed at the Barcelo Maya Beach and Garden Resort. We lucked out and happened to get a great deal leaving from Winnipeg this Sunday to the Occidental Grand Flamenco Xcaret. I understand this is a new hotel that just opened July of 2002, and therefor there are some bugs to be worked out... I am wondering if there are any recent trip reports or reviews for this property, what you liked, dislike, what to see, miss and any other general information about the area would be appreciated. Last time we went to Tulum and spent a half a day at Xel-Ha! I enjoyed both and hope to spend another day at Xel-Ha. I understand that you get a day pass to Xcaret when you stay at this property...what is included?
Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Andrea

I was offered a choice between that hotel and the Barcelo. I choose the Barcelo because of the beach and it's been in business longer.
My sister-in-law stayed at the hotel (she's a travel agent) and really liked it. She said the food was better then the Barcelo but the reviews I looked up said that they're supposed to have 10 restaurants but a lot of them weren't open. There was also something I liked a bit more about the Barcelo (the other one looked too fancy) but that's just a personal opinion. I sure I would enjoy it. So if you don't mind the issue about the beach (man-made and disappointing apparently to people expecting better) the pool is supposed to be great. |
