Staying at Sandos Caracol. I've heard mixed reviews so far but except where it comes to food I'm not that tough a customer.
Some sun, some shade, some beer, some tequila, some sand and warm salty water...how bad could it be? Beats the hell out of New York winter. Only wish I had more time south of the border.
Next trip though I'll be looking to stay a bit closer to town and find my own meals.
Sounds like a great plan. I've got nothing for ya on the hotel, I've only stayed in town and a house in Playacar. Good luck.

I'm not sure exactly, but I think Rob and Laura left New Rochelle in the late '60's. Laura changed her name and moved to the twin cities. Rob went back to med school, also changed his name. It took him a while to successfully earn his degree but I think he is a medical examiner now.
Sadly, no one has been able to get any information on 'Pickles'.
There is (in real life) a pizza slice named after Mel Cooley. It can be found at TwoBoots Pizza in downtown Manhattan. I can't remember what's on it, but their slices are generally very good.

By the way, Laura made it after all.

I think I'm gonna' like you. You're silly. Stick around. And anybody who can keep up with Cuff is pretty special. He can be a tad esoteric. (That's what I like about him...mostly.)

That's awfully good!

And as for the Mel Cooley...there's NOTHING on top.

Hey Bronxboy, welcome to the forum! As a fellow foodie, we love the diversity of food in Playa. The BF is in Culinary School right now...just finished his first semester I love to cook, and have a true passion for food, but have not had any formal training, can't wait to learn from Josh in the upcoming months.

Just wanted to chime in with our do not miss list while in Playa:

Babe's
HH Monterrey
Push carts on fifth and Juarez
We love La Tarraya on 4th and the beach for the shrimp ceviche and fish alla Tarraya. Great lunch spot.

Can't wait to try La Pesca in March. I will be also looking forward to hopefully a trip report from you when you return
Again, welcome!

Ceviche!!!! I could live on that stuff.
Thanks for the other tips CMSitaly! I am already thinking about my second trip to Playa which I will need in order to check out all the good eats....and I haven't even packed for my first yet. I;ll do my best to keep track of the places I eat (and drink) and report back here.
Good luck to you and your BF with the chef thing. If you don't absolutely love it the business will kill you. Not to be the harbinger of gloom, just to go into it with eyes open.
So Babes and HH Monterrey what did you like about them??

Parli Italiano?
Ciao

I thought it was HC, but either way the food is GREAT! We didn't actually "eat in"...we just stopped at the butcher counter and took the meat home to grill. We'll be sure to go back in March.

Hey just got back in from some errands...

Babes is awesome food. They have Thai curries, Vietnamese shrimp rolls and the best Swedish Meatballs I have ever had. I think the owner is Swedish and they lived in Thailand for a while.. always a good meal. usually hit it 2-3 times when we are there.
HC Monterrey is the most tender and flavorful flank steak (u can cut it with a fork) very affordable too. I have pics in my trip report.

I appreciate the heads up about the restaurant biz, I am sure it is a killer anyway, but the passion makes up for it

No parlo Italiano-Italy is just my favorite country to visit thus far (except Playa) of course for the food!
