Newbie Checking in
Arriving in early Jan for 7 nights. Never been before. Looking for the offbeat, non-mainstream, out of the ordinary.
For a point of reference let's just say I'm over forty if that makes any difference. Being a chef, I am of course interested in good restaurants particularly ones offering AUTHENTIC regional or local cooking. Seafood is high on my list. Going off the beaten path is cool. The lists of restaurnts in Playa seems fairly large which in general means that there are a few gems and more than a few clunkers. any help in that direction is a plus. Any nightlife suggestions would be an added bonus but I'll probably just bum around anyway till I find something that fits. Thanks from da Bronx |

![]() Check out the other sub forums for plenty of discussions about dining opportunities in Playa. The Search feature will give you lots of ideas. There's a thread in the General area right now that has a pretty comprehensive listing. You're right in that there's some losers, but the great eating places far outweigh them. Bon Appetit! |

The questions about restaurants come up with incredible regularity in the general area - like daily, but you can also take a peek in the Changarros y mas forum, which tends to cover a lot of ground with the everyday type eating establishments, as opposed to the more "high end" spots.

Only about fifty so far. I've skimmed through Jimontheriver's review. that's what I'm talkin' about
I will have to try to trim the list down a bit with helpful cross-references from all you folks. Looks like my next trip will have to be ala carte as i'm doing the all-inclusive deal this time out. I guess breakfast in the hotel, late lunch in town and then follow where my nose takes me. I'm getting hungry though. Mmmmmm Shrimp, snapper........ |

La Pesca is definitly #1 on my list.
Staying at Sandos Caracol. I've heard mixed reviews so far but except where it comes to food I'm not that tough a customer. Some sun, some shade, some beer, some tequila, some sand and warm salty water...how bad could it be? Beats the hell out of New York winter. Only wish I had more time south of the border. Next trip though I'll be looking to stay a bit closer to town and find my own meals. |
