This is the first time I have eveer been lucky enough to nab such an amazing fare from the Chicago area. It is also the first time I'll be flying out of Milwaukee, but it is actually closer to our house than Midway is (although O'Hare is the closest - but the lowest commercial fare there was well over $350).

BTW, for anyone looking for these super low fares, this was not on a commercial airline shcedule (ie, American, Delta, Alaska, etc). This fare was an air-only deal from Funjet, which is a large package-tour/charter company. Similar to Apple Vacations, GoGo, etc. These super-low fares are their way of filling up charter flights they usually schedule for their all-inclusive travelers. As dates get closer, they would rather fill the empty seats with air-only travelers (like hubby & I) than let them fly empty. They generally don't advertise these last-minute seats and so you have to keep looking at their websites. That's why for this fare, we had to fly out on either Jan 3rd, 10th or 11th and had to stay for 7 nights. Also, the $99 r/t fare is before taxes & fees. (however, even after adding taxes & fees, our combined cost for the both of us is still less than one r/t fare on a commercial airlinge for the same time period!)

Hope that helps!

Unfortunately, from smaller or lesser known airports that have only a scheduled air option available, and with little competition from other carriers, you're simply not going to find cheap or discounted airfares often - if at all.

Fortunately we have many options in Dallas for low airfares. I look at the flight schedules for different airlines, decide what days/how many I want to go and then just watch and wait for the fairs to drop. Sometimes I don't get my flight until 3 or 4 weeks before I leave. Its great too if youre able to just pick up and leave in a few days notice. I'm carefully watching right now for Feb on Funjet and Worryfree...get the new specials sent to me today from Worryfree, so we'll see if they come through on my dates. If not...Funjet here I come.

I believe Funjets home office is in the milwaukee area. Parking is relatively easy at Mitchell airport, look for the "Remote Lots" as you come in toward the terminal, park, and go to one of the sheds where the free shuttles stop. It's now up to $8 per day, was $3/day about 15 years ago, miss those days!
Heres a link for their parking info:

Gingele, you will really enjoy the airport compared to yours. When we fly we even sent a little more to fly out of Milwaukee only to transfur at O'hare, much les stress. If you don't mind paying a little more try the long term parking. Go to the third level when you get to there you can go to the left or right , go to the left. You should be able to find a stall towards the middle of the building. The best part of this floor is that they have the moving walkway there, it runs the length of the building. You get on that and with in three to four minutes you in the terminal to the ticket counter. We have parked there the last eight times we've flown and never had a problem. Like I said it cost more but if it snows will your gone your not scraping windows. We'll be there three days to go back down so there will be one less spot
