I'm starting as well..
I dont believe in the scale because being active in basketball I know that muscles weigh more that fat.. so the scale doesnt really say alot about your physical state.

The only thing I want to do is be happy in a bikini and that's my only goal. I dont know how much I weigh.. and don't really care
But I know how I look and what I have to do.
So Gym! here I come
Didn't mention it but the site has all kinds of conversion, Kilos, stones LBS etc.

OOOPS!! that should have read half your weight in ounces. 200 lbs = 100 ounces.
It's a lot of water and if your not used to it you'll be in bathroom a lot for the first few days.

edit again....not wearing my glasses and trying to go to work...sorry peeps!!

The site you posted Snowdogs is great, I've used it before. I don't live by the scale. I go more for what my clothes and mirror tell me. I guess weighing in just gives you something more tangible to go by. But, I don't think anyone should weigh more then once a week.

One other point is to eat often. When I'm in my best shape, I'm eating 5 to 6 times a day, with a balance of Carbs and protien and I try limiting the fat to the good stuff. And for those of us who must have creamer or half and half in their coffee, Darigold makes a great fat free creamer.

Count me in!

After being an exercise fanatic my entire adult life, I had a backslide over the past year. Any number of excuses -- no really good reasons, isn't that always the way it is?

I have been heavy for quite a while, but the lack of exercise really tipped me into uggo land.

I have decided to wake up extra-early in the morning to do my exercise first thing, before any distractions pop up. Realizing I am basically starting from scratch, I am using the "Walk It Off with George!" exercise DVDs I got for $2 each at a close-out stores. Actually, the program is perfect for me, because the moves are very basic, and the instructor keeps the pacing brisk but not deadly. It's a solid half hour of cardio, with 8 minutes of warmup/cooldown on each end. George Foreman is also very good -- lots of positive messages that are sort of corny -- but at 5:30 in the morning, I guess I am susceptible, because I think it is the greatest thing to have him say "I am your friend! Looking Good! Me and the Team will never leave you!"
Yeah!

So while we can and should be tough on each other, let's not forget how great positive reinforcement can feel, too. You are all great to be taking these steps for yourself! I hope I can keep it up, too!

Also, I am restricting myself to 1500 calories a day. This is what a 150-pound woman needs to maintain weight. Considering that I am way over 150, I felt it made sense to just train myself now to eat for a weight I would be thrilled to re-achieve. I'm keeping a food journal -- something about writing it down that really helps you stay on the straight and narrow. Also, I think I made a mistake in the past to incorporate my exercise calories into my equation (ie, I exercised the equivalent of 750 calories in that session, so I can eat 750 more calories than usual!), so I am only marking that I did exercise. Other than that, I'm sticking to 1500.

I am trying a little trick in behavior modification that I thought of. I have created a "LIVE STRONG" sort of bracelet for myself. On one part I have written, in Sharpie, 'LIVE HUNGRY". I have also written 5:15 - 1500 - 45 (for waking up at 5:15, eating 1500 calories a day, and exercising 45 minutes).
If I think a food-naughty or slothful thought, I snap myself on the wrist. Shock therapy! Ummm............

Everybody keep it up!

No no, it is drink half your body weight in OUNCES everyday. Example if you weigh 150lbs. you are supposed to drink 75 ounces of water a day. This is "ideal"

edit:sorry Kel..just saw that you corrected it

I need to stop weighing myself each morning - I think you're right, once a week enough or better still gauge by how my favorite jeans fit. The other challenge getting the extra meals in and cuting back on the fat. Drinking water, portion size and hauling my butt into the gym is the only way I'll hit my goal.

I had my organic oatmeal with walnuts, flax seeds and blueberries for breakfast. Lunch is homemade soup with turkey and mixed veggies dinner's gonna be a salmon/field green salad topped with a few seeds and nuts and lemon/oliveoil/herb dressing. I' hope I'm not back here crying at 10 pm when the icecream is callin' my name.
Sounds like a perfect plan Have you ever tried the soy ice cream? It is high glycemic, but it does not have the fat. I am not an ice cream person so this suffices for me, an ice cream person might think otherwise

I have not owned a scale in 10 years, I stopped wieghing myself cuz I have a higher percentage of muscle and it weighs more. Used to confuse me when I would weigh more than my friends that were bigger that me in high school. I just go by how my clothes fit now. Weighing yourself can become obsessive.

I still have some celulite on my legs (thanks to being 40+). But since I gave up the scale I am so much happier. I could never weigh as little as I did in highschool. It is impossible . So my two cents is: Find an exercise you actually like and go for it. Baby steps until you are in a habbit...I think it takes six weeks to form a habbit???? Anyway, my motivation is: its either exercise every day or PROZAC. And I am quite serious.
I heard that actually helps you lose weight !!!

But I agree.....excersise /cardio/weight training is the way to go.

For the first time, I don't need a diet, as I was sick almost all the time, and ate NOTHING of the juicy things...and no alchol, I was taking antibiotics. I feel asleep the night of teh 31st and missed the big party. something's terribly wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
