Wow! What a great report, I loved your pictures. You have the MOST adorable children! They have gorgeous eyes! You and the hubby aren't slackers either Seriously though you have a beautiful family and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your trip!

Closest planned trip to Playa is New Years!
You have some great trips planned! We were toying with the idea of going away for the Holidays but I'm not sure if we will. We became the proud owner of a cottage on a beautiful lake this past November and there are a few things that we would like to do it, like build a small addition etc... Too bad money doesn't grow on trees uh?

"Ma'am please leave all your belongings in the vehicle & come with me."

So we get the kids out & follow Ms. US Customs agent where she proceeds to lock us in a room. I am livid at this point. I have to empty my pockets. She asks to search my purse. "Do you have any sharp objects in here I could hurt myself on?" she asks......I say (in my best sarcastic voice) "There may be a bobby pin in there so be very very careful".....My 3yr old decides he has to poop....Nope sorry we can't go anywhere. Sorry your son cannot use the bathroom......"Why do you have so much money on you"......"Umm I am going to Mexico tomorrow..." "Do you have any citrus fruits with you?"....."No I gave up Orange smuggling last year...."

Son is yelling...."I gonna poo poo pants"......I am beyond livid. I don't like being treated like a criminal..

In walks the agents searching our truck....."Have a nice day" they say......

I bite my tongue until it bleeds as I get my purse returned to me. I don't say a word. I am afraid of what may come out...

We get back to the truck where they have adjusted all the air vents on their search & ripped all our wiring out for our Satellite radio. I say to Nick...."Lucky they didn't find the jam"....."You have jam?"......"Yes"...."Thats a fruit.."....."No it is technically a citrus fruit spread"....

Finally we are on our way....well with a quick stop at the gas station at the border for a washroom break & some snacks...It can only get better from here....right?

Well apparently snow plows are non existent in Washington because we never saw one....The roads were horrendous....It was snowing/blowing/raining ice & sleet.......Then came the wind..(I will refer you to Donnys windstorm thread when he posts it)....We were dodging fallen/falling trees through Snoqaulmie Pass...

Finally we make it to Seattle....It is 2:30am....All I want is a hot bath at this point...It has taken us 12.5 hours to do a 6hr trip. We try to find the hotel....why can't we find it? The power is out. It is 2:30am & we unload our luggage into our dark hotel room by flashlight. We have no hot water or heat.

Around 3am we are asleep....

Until 5:30 when the alarm on the cell goes off......Our airport transfer is at 6am.
I feel for ya. At least its just not U.S. citzens that get treated like crap by the Department of Homeland Insecurity.

I've been away from the site for some time, and just found your report. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and viewing all your photos. I have to echo what everyone else has said: what a beautiful family! I love the faces your son makes! Cracks me up. As did the toucan story and the "pukemobile."

I know what you mean about it being such a different experience with kids. Still a blast, but very very different. As Pattie says, "It's like going to a totally different place, but not really."

Thanks for the tip about the ice cream...Haagen Daz is ridiculously expensive for little kids.

And what's up with the photo-phobia? You are VERY beautiful! That's a great shot of you and your hubby with the strawberry marg's/daq's.

Thanks for taking the time to put your report together!

Melissa!!! What a fabulous report...I finally got through it all...as my house sits in disarray (you know, laundry piling up, kids running amuck, toys everywhere...blah, blah, blah). What a great distraction this trip report was, though, because I damn sure do not feel like doing housework or any schoolwork for that matter. Now all I can think of is Playa, Playa, Playa!
The pictures are fabulous and you have a gorgeous family! I'm so proud to share a birthday with you!
Ah Cacao does have fabulous brownies, by the way...when we were at the RPR back in April 06 I stopped there one night for some chocolate mousse and a brownie...I think I OD'd on chocolate that night (because I was also eating the candy from Shammy's Easter goody bags from the Peep Meet).
Cozumel is fun, isn't it?? Our first ever experience with Mexico was Cozumel and we were on a cruise ship, but since that first visit back in 2000 we've always rented a jeep and headed out to the eastern beaches and bars. Punta Morena is our favorite...hopefully it will be built back up by the time we are there in September.
I loved your report...the kids looked like they had a blast and I cannot wait to take my rugrats to Mexico...well, I CAN...I am not so certain I'm ready to share Mexico with them just yet. But, mine are just about the same age as your's so........
Hopefully we'll meet up in Playa one of these days...not sure if we can swing a New Year's visit...it all depends on the cash flow...but I'll try!
