Hola from Lawng Island
Hi all. Never been but I've been doing a lot of research on PDC and am falling in love. This place sounds fabulous and I can't wait to go. Maybe February or March, which month has more perfect weather? We're also torn about were to stay. Definately small....boutique, but in town, out of town, on the beach???? Just too many options. We like to do a quick (4 day) regress, decompress and refresh at least twice a year. I guess we'll just have to visit more than once to try out all the options. See yall soon!

Welcome to the looney bin.
Don't worry about 'more perfect weather' if you're only talking a matter of a couple of weeks. You've picked an excellent time to go for many reasons. Check out the Peep Stuff forum and you'll see that there'll be a LOT of peeps there in Feb and March (Peep Fest and Peep Stock...I know, we're goofy) and lots of parties and meet ups planned if you'd like to join in. Check out the Trip Planning tab at the top of the page and you'll find reviews of hotels all over Playa. Playa's not a huge place, you could stay on the north end of town and be able to walk all the way south to the ferry in about 20 minute....or two hours if you stop and drink your way there. Check out Luna Blue, Posada Freud, Fusion, Playa Maya, La Tortuga, Riviera del Sol...that should keep ya busy for a while.

Narrowing it down
Narrowing the Hotels down to Tortuga or Shangri-La. Didn't want to go All/Meals included though. We were looking forward to doing a little exploring, well, as much as we can get done in 4 days.

We're planning our first trip to Playa also, maybe April. We're looking at the Shangri-La Caibe, you might want to check it out, it's on the beach. The other hotels mentioned look good too. Have fun choosing.

Even with breakfast and dinner included, the price of the rooms at Shangri-La don't seem so bad, at least not bad enough to guilt me into having to eat there every night. I do love a beach hotelito though. Thought in town would add a little more excitement, I don't really need to relax that much.

I picked it because I just feel in love with the look of the resort and the beautiful beach in front! |

I haven't stayed at Shangri la but the beach is beautiful. It's far enough off 5th and all the fun that it's quiet and relaxing but close enough to walk there and back every night...'cept I would probably take a taxi

How far is it from Shangri-La to town? I heard it was less than a 1/2 mile to the center of town. Best walk on the beach or street. We were in Belize a few years ago and walking the beach at night was adventurous at best, dangerous at least.
Is it worth renting a car? We don't plan on doing anything touristy outside of town besides maybe visiting a cenote, they look cool. |
