Allegro Playacar

I am staying at the Allegro Playacar in 3 weeks and have heard about the condition of the resort and beach. We are unable to change resorts due to the fact that we bought our trip on an auction site. Is there any beach nearby that can be accessed by us while we are there? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

You can sit on the beach anywhere in Playacar, but you can't use the chairs, palapas, umbrellas, etc of any other resort, you'd have to sit on a towel (unless you had your own chair!). You can also head into Playa, just a 5 minute ride away. Lots of beach to use and there are beach clubs where you can pay just a few pesos to rent a chair and/or a palapa/umbrella.

Thanks a lot for the response! My question is - if we grabbed a couple of beers from our resort can you bring them to the public beach in Playa? We are on a budget and don't want to spend any more money then needed. Is there a cheap pub around there as well?

Can you think of any reason why you can't do that?

where we are from it's against the law to drink on public beaches. Just wanted to make sure!

LOL! You CAN drink on a public beach in Playa! You can grab a few cans from your room fridge - wait...does the Allegro even HAVE room fridges? Gonna have to check on that (read past trip reports!). If they don't, all you'll get from your resort is a draft beer in a small plastic cup so me thinks it'll be gone before you even get into a cab! Besides, if you DO sit at a beach club, they don't allow you to bring your own booze as they typically sell it (and food too). Besides, beer is cheap and that expense will hardly break the bank - especially if you find a beach bar with a happy hour or a 2 for 1 deal. Lots of places to choose from too.

we called the allegro resort today and they said the pool that had been cracked is now fixed and the beach is starting to be repaired. Can anyone confirm this or are they just trying to get us to not change our reservations?

I was there in July and had no problems with the pool/pools, so the issue concerning a crack may have occured later.

As for the beach, it was about 30 to 40 feet from property to the water line at the widest strech, and barely non-existent on the other end facing Playa.
They did have some massive barriers in place with the apparent goal of slowing or reversing the erosion process.

We did meander down the beach quite often, past Allegro, away from Playa, and it got variably wider. We also stayed at Viva Maya and later would often return to that beach, and others further along, to swim etc.

Hola We spent our vacation at Allegro and it is true no beach at all. We where there from Dec. 8 to 18. The first day we where able to walk down to the 20 sq. ft. of beach but the second day the waves, big waves, where eroding the foundation and the retaining wall started to colapse and the pool started to crack. By the end of our stay they had started repairs to the pool. I must add that the hotel was providing shuttle service to another beach and where providing vouchers for two drinks per person. click to enlarge
