Philly to Playa in 4 days...
Just found this forum last night.... thanks for all the great info. My husband and I are leaving on Sunday for the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Our first all-inclusive trip together - his first AI and first time in Mexico, my 3rd time in Mexico - first time in Playa del Carmen. I have been to an AI in Cancun on a girls trip in 1998 and stopped in Cozumel on a cruise in 2001. We are excited but nervous as well about "letting go" of control to the AI concept. We are used to city vacations and exploring, trying new restaurants, etc but after a long trip to Tuscany and Rome this past summer I jsut wanted to sit my rear on a beach for a week. And oh yeah, I just read about the beach erosion at RPRM so again, am nervous about this trip!
So I just wanted to introduce myself - I do have a couple of basic questions if anyone can help me out - I found that learning some Italian before my trip this summer really helped - not only with my comfort level but it definitely got us better service at times as well! What are some key Spanish phrases I should learn before we leave? Any suggestions on a Spanish language guide to download to my iPod before we leave so I can practice on the plane? Second question - when I was in Cancun in 1998 we were there over the Three Kings Day holiday which I looked up online and is Jan 6 - the day before we arrive - this year. We had some fabulous bread or cake the last time I was there for the holiday with a little token or trinket hidden in it. Any suggestions on where/if I can pick this up in Playa del Carmen post-holiday? Would love for my husband to try it. Thanks for your hospitality on the board! Michelle |
