Silly question - how much for a taxi?
I have heard you barter before getting into a taxi to take you anywhere. If we are about a 5 minute drive outside of Playa - how do we know how much to pay for a ride?

Check out typ. taxi fares with your hotel's concierge/desk manager. Many places hand out info. on current fares to different locales. Just make sure to confirm with the driver what the fare will be before jumping into the taxi.

I agree with maenstranba-I don't think you necessarily barter for a ride so much as you just find out how much it'll cost and then agree on that based on "published" rates or rates that the hotel told you. (unless you're travelling a long distance or asking a cabbie to be your chauffeur for the day). If it seems to high, you can decline and then ask another cabbie.
Definitely ask at your hotel about the fares. You can also ask to see the rate card. Each cabbie should have one (that was our experience, at least). I know that the mapchick maps have general taxi fares printed on them. Good luck! |
