New Age/Spiritual Playa and Tulum
OK Playa and Tulum experts- I've got a query for you. The same reporter that I am working with from a major NY-area newspaper who asked for any former NYC and Long Island area residents who now live in Playa has also asked me about the new age/spiritual aspects of the Playa/Tulum area. I know I've read about Yoga and new age related retreats/resorts in the Tulum area before but for the life of me I cannot remember their names- and the reporter would like some examples of the new age/spiritual aspects of Playa and Tulum so that she can visit them when she travels down there soon.
So, do you have any that you can reccommend for me? It might be good PR for them cus there's a good chance they'll end up included in a travel article on the area that will run in a major newspaper. Thanks for the help in advance! |

In this months Spa magazine there's a great article on just this subject. The writer went to Azulik in Tulum and experienced a spa treatment that included a tamazcal (sweat lodge) ritual and cenote dip. She also went to Playa and stayed at La Tortuga and had treatments at Itza Spa. Then she took a tour (maybe through Altournative tours?) where she went to some little town about and hour inland and did another Tamazcal ritual with a Shaman and a night swim in a cenote that she described as something like she's never experienced...something magical. I was going to post a more detailed thread about it but I don't have the mag here with me. The Mayan believed the cenotes were the underworld and had magical powers both good and evil. I think the whole place is magical.

Temazcal new age? Spiritual? That's amusing. It's just a steam bath that originated with the the Aztecs. The word itself comes from the Nahautl language. For more info look here: http://www.go-oaxaca.com/services/temazcal.html

Hi
I agree a good place to send her is the Maya Spa in tulum Holly Horton is the owner and would be happy to introduce her to a lot of the local healers ![]() This is daniel local shaman and healer In tulum there is also Maria, who performs cleansing ceremonies with an egg, she works in Playa as well in a spa she was my herbology teacher. There are lots of people very knowledgeable in the subject in Playa, Akumal Tulum and Sain Kaan In playa she can talk to Sharon Sedwick who has been here a long time, and lots of articles have been written about her In Akumal, Hilario Hiler lived among a Maya community for 30 years participating in their ceremonies and is fluent in maya The tour with the cleansing Temazcal and cenote at night is at Dos Palmas, if she wants to have that it can be found at www.dospalmas.info, there are other ceremonies that take place only at full moon, with local communities if she wants to join one that is not made for tourists she should e mail me and I will be happy to take her Feel free to give her my e mail address I have helped a tv channel put together a program on this subject and I like it. Hope this helps you thanks Claudia |
