I have a booking problem and I need your help!
Greetings all
My sister and her family are planning to use Air Canada Aeroplan airmiles to fly to Cancun in November. However she is shy of the 330,000 miles needed to fly to Cancun. 118,000 airmiles will get her to Miami. She was thinking she could then pay for a flight from Miami to Cancun. The flight should be cheaper because it is so close to Cancun However we are dealing with airlines here and I thought that there might be better locations where the flights to Cancun are cheaper. For instance I just came back from Playa Dec 06 from Minneapolis and paid $99.00. I know that they often have good deals to Cancun. Are there any other cities/hubs that we should consider for cheap Nov/Dec flights or would Miami be the most sensible jumpoff point? Thanks all Dutchie |

Can she buy the air miles she needs to get to Cancun? Maybe that would be cheaper? I live in Minnesota and watch the "deals" pretty close to Playa. I flew down to Playa in November thru Northwest for $350. I booked those about 4 months before we left. I'm going to Playa in 3 week for $250 thru worryfree vacations and booked them about 6 weeks ahead. I think it'd be hard to find a $99 flight from MSP to Playa in November.

Hi Dutchie,
I'm in Houston. While I can't comment on the charter flights, our "big airline" flights don't seem to be much more reasonable than other parts of the country. Haven't figured that out yet, since many flights stop here on the way back. We usually find the best deal with Continental - I think $330-350 is usually the best that can be found, and that's with Tuesday/Wednesday dates. I was looking for flights for late May and they're over $400 right now. However, we did fly last November for only $350 each. But here's the good news - you can fly roundtrip for as little as 35,000 reward miles. Would you be able to transfer some of your reward miles to a Continental One Pass account (free to set up)? I know you can transfer from American Express and some related airlines. If you could get to Houston for 118,000, then Cancun for 35,000 that would be considerably less than the 330K direct. Another option to consider would be Dallas. I think the best flights from there are probably with American, since that's their hub (as Houston is for Continental). Also, from reading the forum, it seems flights from Minnesota are incredibly cheap! Good luck! Buzz P.S. I should mention that Continental is really a great airline (no, I don't work there) . They have a GREAT on-time record. It's very very rare that we've encountered any problems with our flights. And they also taxi right up to the gate - no buses. |

i just went to that site and their rates do not include tax which can be a big chunk of change. so be sure to get their final price. also, i wonder if it is one of those bait and switch deals. i called on a cheap flight to paris that was advertised as $499 r/t. after all was said and done for my travel dates, and tax it was $1400
