We have been to both resorts and my feelings can be very quickly summarized.

The Lindo has better service, especially poolside and at the swim-up bars. Concierge service and no limits on ala cartes is nice.

The Barcelo has a huge beach (which was never calm when we were there) and the whole complex was so big that it just never felt over-crowded. We actually found the ala cartes to be better at the Barcelo. However, we liked the buffets better at the Lindo.

I would go back to the Barcelo with the family (excellent value for the money) but I would return to the Lindo if going with no kids.

Just one more vote for the Barcelo, I finally listened to Shammy and took a girls trip last Fall. Super place, great beach, snorkle right there and we loved the little place out by the pier too.

beach looks very rocky to me in the pictures?? can someone clarify that for me??

Also, can you pay to have more ala-carte nights? or just the tickets you are given?

Is there alot of walking like at the Lindo..I didn't like that at all.

Thanks

I answered your question on the other post...
1. Some is rocky but that makes for good snorkeling
2. No you can't buy more ala-carte nights - if lucky someone you meet might have extras.
3. Can be a lot of walking but not too much if you don't want - layed out very well. Check out the maps on http://www.unofficial-barcelo-maya.com
Enjoy - Heading back to Barcelo for my third trip...

I am glad they don't...I think it would take away alot from the beauty of the beach...There are shaded cabanas right at the poolside anyway...

Sun Knee Marie, We have been to both resorts as well as some of the others who have responded.. First of all, have to say that Slynky said what I would have said .. However to add to it? Just depends on what you want to spend? You really cannot compare the 2 resorts. Hands down the winner in my opinion for the beach is the Barcelo. You want the more upscale look? go to the Lindo. Wave pool? come on your in Mexico with a real beach.. Who cares? you can get that at any water park..I do have to say that the ice cream station on top of the swim up bar at the Lindo is pretty nice though? At the Lindo you do get included room service.. ( same thing as on the buffet bar) trust me not so great. As far as the food? My opinion only.. No difference really. however I will close by saying that during my stay at the Barcelo, I could wake up in the morning look out over the pool to the most beautiful beach/ocean (and of course looking over the pool) that one sees in advertisements for travel.. You can not get that at the Lindo.. Besides at the Lindo you walk forever to the beach, beautiful resort but for the money and your request for answers to your questions, I would take the the Barcelo hands down!! Unless you get the Lindo for a discount

The only thing that keeps me from booking the Barcelo for my family is the room service charge. Silly I know, but my kids always use it every night before we go to bed. That's why we keep doing the Iberostars. Not that I have any complaints about Iberostar ( I love the Tucan!!! )

Oh, darn, I just noticed I let my 1000th post go right by!
