Questions about Tequila Patron Anejo

Hi there,
I am a huge tequila fan! Unfortunately there are only a few brands available in Holland. Now I found a shop in Amsterdam which sells Tequila Patron Anejo. I read some positive comments about this tequila. On their website you can read that this is a blend of tequila's. What does this mean? It is 100% agave, but does a blend mean they use different types a agave for this tequila? So not only the blue Agave or no blue agave at all?
And somewhere I saw something about "caramel and vanilla". They didn't add some extra flavours to it did they?

Did he? He said something about that a while ago yes. He would ask a bartender in Amsterdam about his Don Julio reseller. I'll send him a pm. I have a bottle of Don Julio at home and I love it. I only had to bring it myself from Mexico...
Thanx sctx!
BTW.... so you don't really like Patron?

High quality, aged tequila preferences are really a matter of personal taste. I do not like Patron as well as say Don Julio anejo or Tres Generaciones anejo....but many people I know prefer Patron anejo....I would try it if I were you! (then I would try Don Julio anejo....and then Tres Generaciones Anejo....and then Don Fernando anejo....and then Don Julio 1942.....and.....well, you get the idea... )

The "blend" they are talking about is a blend of tequila's per the note below from their website...and the flavor accents they mention are a natural taste sensation from the aging (length of aging and how they age it..e.g. "small white oak barrels) and the blend....this is 100% agave.

Patrón Añejo is a delicate blend of uniquely aged tequilas. All the tequilas are aged in small white oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months. As in many premium red wines, the blends must be adjusted for each vintage. The same care and attention is paid when blending Patrón Añejo making it smooth, distinctive and extraordinary.

and from another site...click here

Patrón Anejo is a delicate blend of uniquely aged tequilas. As in many premium red wines the blends must be adjusted for each vintage. The same care and attention is paid when blending Patrón Anejo. All the aged tequilas are aged in small white oak barrels. The tequila is carefully supervised aging of by the authorities insuring exact aging information. Patrón tequilas are exceptional for a reason. Firstly they are produced from 100% Weber Tequilana Blue Agave which when grown in this region of Jalisco is known to produce excellent high quality "honey" or sugar levels. The second and primary reason for the excellence of Patrón tequilas can be equated to time and care. Like great wines the creation of a great tequila cannot be rushed.

Good plan! Don Julio ==> got it! Tres Generaciones Anejo ==> got it! The other ones not...
unfortunately in Holland you can only taste the tequila AFTER you bought it.

I just don't consider the anejo a good value, if it was $20 cheaper, I might buy it occasionally. But even if it was $20 cheaper, that would put in the same range as Cazadores anejo and Sauza's Tres Generaciones, but in my opinion, it still doesn't compete on taste with those two. People do rave about the silver Patron, making comments such as "You can really taste the agave"........if I want to "really taste the agave', I'll pull a leaf off one of my blue agaves in the front yard and chew on it!!!

OK....I have a question about tequila in general. I've never had really good quality tequila although I do enjoy shots of Jose Cuervo. My question is, do you sip or shoot the high quality stuff? Just curious. I would really like to try a high quality tequila but was just wondering, shoot it or sip it??

if I'm at a high end bar and they have something such as Chinaco anejo, Don Julio 1942 or El Tesoro Paradiso, I usually ask for it in a snifter and sip it. Paradiso usually runs $20/shot, the DJ '42 usually runs $16-$20, and Chinaco about $10- $12, so I like to enjoy those a little more....Paradiso is aged in cognac barrels, the DJ '42 has hints of caramel, and the Chinaco is a straightforward smooth tequila....If I did a shot of Cuervo Gold, I'd have to throw it down and not let it touch my tongue

Good info. I'm anxious to try some of the good stuff. Now I just have to find a high end bar....
