No way, dude. I like Starbucks coffee. I don't like their proliferation programs. If the US used a Starbucks strategy in Iraq, we would have Baghdad pacified in a week. I don't buy into the whole "Playa is ruined" complaints of the Playa purists, however. Its a little bit too elitist and unrealistic for me. Afterall, the only reason Playa has a Starbucks is because too many of the purists told their friends about the place, to begin with.

My kids loved Burger King in Playa. I am not afraid to admit I liked the 6peso ice cream cones.....good fries too!!

McDonalds is in 119 Countries around the world.......so far those countries haven't collapsed as a result.

Dude, you cannot possibly seriously think that my barb was serious and that I, rather than side with you on that point, was worried about the state of post-Starbucks Playa? I mean, after all, look at the post I started this thread with.

I think it's great to have choices - I could go to Starbucks on any given day at home, but while on vacation I would much rather go outside the normal routine and do something that I can't do everyday - like visit Java Joe's!

Actually a chunk hit me on the head today...but maybe that was just God trying to tell me something.

Seriously, I think we locals forget sometimes, the Starbucks, the Burger King, the Subway etc are not aimed at feeding us (well, except for my darlin' SarahB ). They are aimed at visitors many of whom arrive here petrifired that they won't find anything to eat or drink that won't send them rushing to the bathroon or the hospital. So if having a few chain outlets on 5th allows people the confidence to visit, that ain't a bad thing. And once they are here we can convince them that it's all right to eat at Carboncitas, El Fagon, Bloody Chicas, Cafe Corazon etc. Oh...and Coconut Shrimp down on the beach. Now what is the name of that place?


Speaking of Coffee, Carlitos had family bring me down some Cafe DuMonde Coffee from New Orleans recently. I am addicted to the stuff. And I ran out yesterday. Withdrawl symptoms are setting in.

Well, I'm not a coffee drinker (but oh, the chickita coming with us this year is DEFINITELY a Starbuck's fanatic. Although I know she'll try Jave Joe's & any other & totally enjoy).
My question is does Java Joe's (or Starbuck's for that matter) etc have chai tea lattes. The skank got me hooked on those.
I'm not sure I'll need much down there as it is usually to warm up. Come to think of it, I NEED one now!!!!
